My friend from the Bay Area has confirmed that it's only raining there thus far. Heavy snow is reported in the Sierra Nevada mountains:

Fierce Arctic storm lashes California - Yahoo! News

"The northern half of the state was being hit with strong rain, 85-mph wind and heavy snow in the Sierra Nevada, National Weather Service forecaster Andrew Rorke said."

Mammoth Lakes, the ski resort area, as reported, may receive as much as 10 FEET of snow ... 10 feet ... a one-story building ... this weekend!

monster storm it is. we got a little taste of it last night in the Seattle area. I just talked to my friend at Monterey ATC and they are on generator power with 50kt crosswinds on the runway. That is paradise compared to what Tahoe and Mammoth are in for.

Oh man, 10 feet...(Homer drooling noise).

One time when we were skiing at Fernie in British Columbia, it snowed 4 feet the weekend we were there. Never had powder like that before or since. Would love to try snow like that (10 ft) - though I wouldn't want to crash and spend the rest of my day looking for my boards under all that...
