Default New IG puppy

Thought I'd share a few pics of our new pup. He's our second Italian Greyhound and is almost 9 weeks old. The black one is about 2 1/2 years old and fully grown and our Boxer is almost 6 years old.

You know what they say...one dog is great; two dogs, ok: three dogs, an obsession; more than three dogs, a barking lot. Your neighbors will be pleased. Cute puppy, BTW.

Yeah, not much of a pet guy....

My neighbor had an Italian greyhound when my dog was a puppy. Man those things are fast! It used to run circles around my dog, literally teasing it and then it would sprint away and then back again to do it all over again. Good looking dog. It almost looks like it has socks on it with the white paws.

Yup...they are fast...a healthy, mature IG can hit 35 MPH in full sprint mode. Look at these pics out of the older one (the black IG named Sam) running in our yard and playing with our Boxer...she tries to keep up but it's useless...lol!

We belong to a local dog club and have been training Sam to run in flyball competition. He's starting to figure it out. He should be pretty competitive and it's fun for them too.

Awww!!, both ours are rescue dogs (SSPCA Cat and Dog homes at Milton Dumbarton and Cardonald, Glasgow), so no cute (pee and poo on the carpet) puppy stage for us!!

Nope, we get ours ready house trained and glad just to be loved (again).

The youngest we got was/is Cindy, the black brindle, 3 legged, Staffordshire Bull Terrier with a bent/kinked tail (obviously caused at the same time as her leg), at the tender age of 11 months old, from Cardonald.

Poor thing, she had lost her back left leg in a car accident, and then been abandoned within her first 11 months of life. No wonder she looked all confused at first. Bless her little woolly jumper.

The 3 legs do not stop her, and she's just delightfully dotty (as most Staffies are).

Now 3, she is quite small for her age and people do occasionally think she's a puppy still.

She lives now with my Sister.

Our other dog, Bruno, was apparently found stray in Greenock (Scotland), is a tan brown Staffie/Alsatian/Labrador/everythingelse cross, and they think he was 2 or 3 when we got him (October 2001). He's now about 10, and, as booked, is rather smelly these days, but we love him nonetheless!!
He had been at Milton for 3 months, nobody wanted him
Rather quiet and placid is his nature, which may explain that!

When we got him, it wasn't until the first night of him being home with us that we heard him bark and make any real kind of sound, and that was when someone came to the door.

Quiet and placid he is, that is, unless he sees certain other dogs, cats, and, oddly enough, motorbikes. He HATES motorbikes with a passion!!

Now a Therapet, this Heinz 57, rain hating, former stray goes and says hello to all the people at the local old folks home regularly, and gets fed biscuits for his efforts, not that he complains of course!! (it's no use telling the pensioners that he's meant to be on a diet, etc, they feed him far too much regardless).

Anyway, enough about the woofs.

Awesome! I thought IGs stayed small? Maybe I have only seen them at young ages?

Yeah, they stay pretty small...the black one (Sam) is about 13-14 pounds or so, fairly large for an IG. Not much to his body, they stay really skinny but they are all legs. All of our dogs are from breeders and are AKC registered so they are the real deals.

I should mention that the new puppy is not exactly show quality material because he has a blue tint to his eyes which is considered a fault in the IG breed standard. However, he is able to be registered and since we have all of our dogs fixed (spayed/neutered) it wouldn't be possible to show them anyway. I still love him even though he is a "fault" lol! We picked him up at a discount from the breeder because of this. He is still all IG though...acts, looks, and is growing exactly the same as the other one. He learned how to jump off of the couch and how to run over this weekend..lol! Quite a handful. It's hilarious watching him trying to learn how to manage his long legs when he tries to run...has alot of falls and chin dives.

Isn't it tough having a Staffordshire Bull Terrier in the UK with all of the laws regarding fighting dogs there?

What laws??

Staffies are very common thankfully. I think it's other types you are thinking about that have been banned.

As you'll no doubt know, sadly, people read the scare stories in the tabloids and think they know better than yourself about them. You hear it all the time.

There's no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner. They are a bit like kids.

Staffies are very excitable, etc, so sometimes, they can have a somewhat unfortunate appearance to anyone not used to them, I'll admit it.
You just have to be sensible about things, otherwise you'll not only be letting yourself down, but also, and more importantly, you will be being unfair on the dog.

Quite how ANYONE with a brain can find dogs fighting entertaining is just ....... well, I can't find the words, it's completely and utterly incomprehensible to me!
It would never even occur to me. Ever.

Personally I'd round all the s**tbrained scum up and pit them all against each other in an extremely violent, prolonged, distressing and painful, battle Royale. See how they feel like it.

Then again though, that would be too good for these ... these...... things.

If two meatheads want to beat the crap out of each other, fine, it's their choice, but what choice do animals get??

The memorial on Hyde Park Corner, London, to the animals used in war, echos this sentiment - they had no voice to object or choose.

I thought they were included in the dangerous dogs law. It must be the Staffordshire Terrier and not the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I haven't read a great deal about it, I just know about the ban on American Pit Bull Terriers and others closely related. I agree with your sentiments completly regarding the bad dog vs bad owner. Of course I'm biased because I own two APBT's but I have also done a considerable amount of research about the subject. There is quite a bit of misrepresentation and disinformation in the media regarding the subject.
I think it's great that you adopted a dog with a disability. Many people aren't willing to animals that have some sort of disability a chance. In my neighborhood there is a APBT that lost the use of both of it's hind legs. The owners built a harness and wheels to take the place of his back legs. It's amazing how well he cruises around on those two wheels. I bet your dog does pretty well too. Any pictures?
