Hello to all here at DA.C ---
I thought my first post should be to say 'hey' to everyone, so here I am!! ![]() Just found the site yesterday, and I hope to learn all I can from you guys about the hobby. My own passion for these planes comes from my first airplane flight from DCA to Florida (TPA) about 27 years ago on an Eastern DC-9-30 (all polish C/S), and as a rememberance of the trip my Aunt bought me a 727 in the Eastern white/polished C/S out of the catalog that was in the plane's seat pocket...(still have it packed away somewhere). I'm not what you'd call a 'seasoned' flyer by any means, but I've decided to start off collecting these planes by getting one example of every plane that I've had the opportunity to fly on....I'm having a good bit of fun with it, and know that a couple of them will be hard to come by...(like the Gemini Club #5 World Airways DC-10, flew on that in '83)....my last acquisition was the new Gemini 200 A-319 in NWA livery (girlfriend flew on that, so it qualifies I guess).... Who knows where it'll go from here, but hello. Looking forward to it all. Cheers. |

Hi, and welcome to the club. You're new to collecting, eh? Watch out, this can be a highly addictive hobby...some of us are jonesing worse than heroin addicts (me included) for the new releases every month. I started out with about 15 planes March of 2006, and now I'm up to 540. Good thing I have an understanding wife! Anyway, we're always glad to have new folks show up.

Thanks Steve. Well, a long time ago I started wearing the mantle of 'WAY too many hobbies', so what's one more,
...I was in California last month and happened upon a toy store who had loads of planes of all different scales, and I told myself, 'I can't leave without getting SOMETHING'.....so this is where I jumped in head-first I suppose. Don't have too many as of yet (about 10), but this too shall change.. The biggest surprise so far has been that someone actually made up a DC-8-61 in Capitol Air colors....I flew on that as a charter in 1984 to the UK...that plane had a billion hours on it even back then, ... |

Hello and welcome. Take a seat and enjoy your flight !
Do you plan to limit yourself to the planes you flew on, or are you already feeling the collecting frenzy coming ?...![]()

I thought that simply doing the planes I have flown on would be a good first step. Being that I am a musician and a history buff as well, there has been little time to stop collecting anything. I have too many interests!! Mystere, I see you live near Omaha Beach according to your profile....I was an assistant curator here in the USA once for a museum dedicated to the 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division....which of course was involved in the 1st wave of the D-Day Invasion on Omaha. I hope to make it to Normandy some day.... |

Thanks, Lenka, for the warm welcome. Don't worry, I'm sure there are more planes in your future! Tracking them down is half the fun!

This is what happens when you leave your computer to hoodlums. For anyone who saw that message to Bill-ay, that was not me, it was my brother-in-law who thought that would be funny to post. I apologise, I was going to tell Bill-ay he needs to leave this forum if he doesn't like it, and stop harrassing the newcomers with negative messages. I went to answer the phone, and my brother-in-law decided to fill in for me. Sorry.

I told Gary (my B.I.L.) that I should have JB kick him out if this is how he's going to act, then left the screen in message mode to answer the phone. The rest is his fault.

Thanks for all the welcomes everyone. I'm sure I'll have a blast here.
Hmm, my favorite airplane....I'd have to say the smaller-medium end of the Boeing line, due to the hopping around I do when I fly; 737-800, 757-200...every plane I've flown on has been cool. I rarely take a direct flight and don't mind changing planes so I can see planes and scenery. I was on a 767-300 to SFO last month, great ride on that too. So far I have 1/250, 1/200 and 1/400 in my collection, but 1/400 is going to be the dominant scale I think 'cause there is so much of it. I'll probably end up having many different scales of planes...I've got a 1/250 737-800 coming right now, so make room on the shelf!! ![]() |

I see that your focus of collection is on aircraft that you've flown on, in 1:400 scale. We know your favourite aircraft are the B738 and the B752. What about your favourite airline and favourite airport?

My favorite airport? Dulles (IAD) is my home airport, but alot of construction going on there right now.
I'd have to say Orange County/John Wayne Airport(SNA) in southern California is my favorite...it's a fairly small airport, the biggest plane that flys into it is a 757. On departure there is a steep climb over the Pacific--- then back on the power due the noise abatement laws in effect in Orange County...feels almost like a stall, it's really cool. Then a turn-around to head back over the desert and the eastern destinations. It's usually crystal clear, and many times you can see all the way up to Long Beach and Los Angeles to the north. The flight from SFO to SNA is an hour long flight that hugs the California coastline, and that is a cool sight as well. DFW is nice, it's just a HUGE complex. |
