..... Beckham will never influent Soccer (or football if you prefer) in the states. Pele did that a generation ago. Pele made it a sport people wanted to watch, wanted to play and increased the popularity of the game, both professionally and amateur.
..... Pele sold the United States (and Canada too) on the game.
..... Beckham will just sell more tickets and lots of "Beckham" jerseys.
..... Personally, I'm very tired of hearing about the two Beckhams they don't register.

Your snoring is bothering me, I'm snoring too. USA soccer is not interesting compared to the English Premier League. I know Beckham will not influence soccer here in the states.

..... And the Europeans are more than what you could call enthusiastic. When I was in Sicily in 1988-89 if there was an important match on television all life seemed to come to a standstill in Catania anyway. You get in a taxi or a bus, the match is on the radio. Anywhere that couldn't just conveniently close, the match was being listened to on radio or watched on TV. They were getting all worked up as Italy was hosting in 1990 a football championship or maybe the World Cup, I forget which.
..... Elsewhere, my brothers-in-law in Indonesia are rabid fans, no favorite teams, they just love to watch any match.
..... As I wrote, Pele had a gigantic impact on soccer/football in the U.S. Pele also had a love of the game that went beyond a fat paycheque and a floozie, bimbo has-been rocker wife. I recall he did many things that fostered and interest in soccer off the pitch which made the game as popular as it is today in the U.S. Add to that Pele was just a nice and humble guy.

I totally agree with you on Pele. I notice that too when I was in Indonesia this summer visiting family they watch any soccer match.

Back to topic...I've found watching soccer to be akin to being a street cop. 1% drama and excitement, 99% mind-numbing, repetetive boredom.

Becks may help his team but he is a has been when it comes to soccer. Becks coming to the USA may help raise the profile of the game but it is still seen mainly as a women's sport in the US. I can't see soccer taking off in the US in the short term long term may be as many of the younger generation are playing it. But when there is American Football who needs soccer?
