Default NWA Saab 340 & DC-9 Almost Hit Crossing Runways.

At mephis international airport, a saab 340 was coming in, as it approched the middle marker the landing gear was not working so it told ATC it was going around. On the other runway a DC-9 was coming in to.. The Saab flew 10 feet above the runway while the DC-9 flew 12 feet above the saab.

Wow. Some controllers might loose their job. Did you witness this?

This sounds like B.S. to me. Why the hell would the Saab decend to 10 feet above the runway from the middle marker with a gear prob? And how the hell did they get the magic number of 12 feet? Are you sure it wasn't 13? There may have been a near-miss between the two aircraft, but the numbers are bogus.

If its a life or death situation, the pilot should not care if he gets clearance to go-around.

A pilot does not need a clearance to go around. I just read the same article in USA Today, and it said they missed by 200-300 feet. Not "12"

Let 'em get on your case.....if some ahole pulls out, or a horse comes a trttin' onto the runway, you gonna ask "Tower, skyhawk 12345 request go-around" and wait till tower ok's? No. [b]YOU DO NOT NEED CLEARANCE FOR A GO AROUND /B]

'Twas kidding you, my friend...to Hell with the FAA, fly the bird first, talk about it later (if necessary) with the controllers.
