Default United to Buy the A380???

If anyone lives in Chicago or reads the Daily Herald you might have heard about this. There was an Artical in the buisness section the other day about United meeting with Airbus officials about the possible purchase of an A380. Sound impossible? Not when Glenn Tilton is the CEO of United, just look at how he and his buddies slashed pensions and customer benifits while they stuff their pockets. Glenn Tilton stated that "United is now stronger then ever and can hold it's finacial ground. The purchase of an A380 would allow us to lower the amount of flights to certain locations due to the Double Deckers high capicity. And due to the size of O'hare, we would be able to fly the A380 in and out of our biggest hub." Glenn Tilton also stated that" This new airplane would put us ahead of the compitetion by allowing us to carry more people, more efficantly." Someone should smack that idiot. No news on how many of Uniteds employees are talking this expensive news. Even though I believe the chances of this happening or very slim, if it were to happen, United would probably fall to their crediters. And if the deal went through, United would be the first American Airline to buy the monster.

Check these A380 photos out-

Sincerly I don't think United will have the A380 in the future...

Is that A-380 in Northwest Airlines livery real? Or is that just the work of someone with fancy image editing software. Northwest is in bankruptcy theres no way thay could afford one of those giants.

.....of course, they, Northwest/KLM airlines, have received the first of four 380s with the option of three more on a more atypical seat configuration of an all VIP seat.

I got my very first Northwest Airlines safety card few days ago from another member, shandaken/Jccau, that flew on that bird.

I foresee other USA's domestic airlines buying this bird, specially to service the busy/crowded MIA-NY/NJ-BOS corridor. Imagine only three flights in the early morning and a return service in the afternoon to move that mass of pax up and down the eastern side.

United is already an Airbus customer and, after a bankruptcy, financing offers are critical. Airbus probably is willing to take on more risk than is Boeing.

Hmmm... why should I trust your math when I don´t trust your spelling?

Here´s some food for thought: slots in and out of the large hubs are rather expensive, i.e. you pay four times the amount for going to LHR (e.g.) with 767s you would with one lage A380. If you can get these slots, that is.

It is always neat to see how planes look in deifferent airline liveries, even if they will never exist.

Thanks for posting them.

I wouldn't call it the end of Airbus.Heck, even boeing had a hiccup in the 747 program back when they were test flying it (I seem to recall cases of the engine falling off when it wasn't supposed to as well as other delays). But now its a iconic plane, possibly the most recognizable plane on earth. I Think we should remember the case of B 247 vs. DC-3. We both know who won that battle. Boeing didn't even make many civil aircraft until WWII ended I think. To add, the A32X line at airbus is keeping Airbus going too, and there are still as many airlines ordering them as there are 737. Personally I think only time will tell. Who knows? Maybe EMB, Tupolev or even Sukoui might come in and compete with those two.

Post Agreed

I agree, I guess I didn't really realize how strong the quote really was. I also totally agree about the A380 comeback, I guess even the giants need a little push eh. As far as the engines falling off are they ever suposed to?

Yes, I cannot describe what its called or why, but when the engines vibrate at a violent rate, the engines will fall off (as they were designed.) I think most modern boeing planes are designed to have this happen as well as True Classic 737s.

I say its better than having a whole plane headed at my house. I think a failure with this system caused that ElAL Cargo to crash into those apartments after takeoff at AMS. I need to go look up the details of this system, but I think it has something to do with it sepertaing it before it explodes or causes the wing to break off. So I'd rather have a 3 engined 744 and a GE 90 in my front lawn rather than a whole 744 and half of my street.

If you ever saw the strange movie "Donnie Darko", you really wouldn't want a GE90 to land on your bed while you're sleeping...though I guess you'd never know it. But yeah, if it's a choice between losing an engine or losing the aircraft, it makes sense to have breakaway engine mounts. They do it for military aircraft...in fact a B-52 lost an engine pod a few years ago out here, it landed on some rural church...nobody got hurt.
