Default Over*There

I've caught most of the episodes of this new show on TV. I think it is very well done. It certainly makes me feel lucky that I'm not There.

Anyone else watching this show?

With my little brother over there, I try not to remind myself where he is. So no, I don't

I watched a few episodes and then tuned it out as it loves to portray our troops as goofballs with little or no discipline. Another Hollywood version of events they tend to know little about.

Pass on this one. It's not worth the viewing time IMHO. Now Band of Brothers, that was worth the view.

Carry on.

It's a series about a squad of soldiers in Iraq and their day to day struggle to survive while protecting convoys. It's daft, lacks credibility and lacks any cohesive story that has meaning to a viewer. My opinion.

I didn't get the impression that the troops were goofballs. The character referred to as Sgt Scream seemed quite the opposite.

I agree too, Band of Brothers was extremely well done.

I guess I just could not get into the story line and the characters. I thought that a story about the troops in Iraq could have been more interesting if they had used a combat squad and not felt the need to include women in the picture, especially when one is portrayed as a useless psychotic.

I'm sure there will be many who like the show. I predicted it would not last more than one season. We'll see how it goes.

It's a reality show - it's what is going on 'over there'... If you don't like the reality they show, why don't go get the movie "Stalingrad" by Joseph Vilsmaier

There you will get only very few useless psychotic women in arms...

Now this movie I saw! Well done but very drepressing - I definitely had the feeling of hopelessness towards the end of this movie. Then my wife walked into the room, asked what I was watching and then told me get off my ass and cut the lawn.

You dufus, it's not a "reality" show. It's a Hollywood production. It figures you wouldn't know the difference though.

And then you knew what depression really means?

Have any of you seen "Der Untergang", "Downfall" in English? It´s about the last 12 days of the Third Reich. Really depressing and astonishing stuff. Bruno Ganz, the actor that plays Hitler, did an extremely outstanding acting in the movie, which was mainly based on the memories of Traudl Junge (Hitler´s secretary) and Rochus Misch (Hitler´s radio operator).´Absolutely recommendable stuff.

...hmm...

The electoral campaign of George W. Bush was kind of a Hollywood production.

The invasion of Iraq was kind of a Hollywood production! The lies that led to it was clearly kind of a Holywood production.

The Terminator is a Hollywood production!

The entire Government of the United Staates is kind of a Hollywood production!

So what diference makes it anyway? Many people in USA have lost long ago the difference between reality and Hollywood productions...

I thought one of the best movies of WWII was a movie called "Das Boot". I think that movie was about as close to the real deal as movie makers have ever come.

I'll definitely have to rent Stalingrad. There was also a very good movie done about a Russian sniper in Stalingrad called "Enemy at the Gates”, although this was more entertainment value than reality. I am still doubtful ANY sniper could hit a hidden target jumping across a hole in a wall.

Carry on.

Downfall was released in North America earlier this spring. I haven't seen it yet but it got a good review in Maclean's (Canadian Der Speigel).

A similar film to this was made in the 1970's called the Last Days of Hitler, starring Alec Guinness I think. I liked this film but it would be very interesting to see the German version in Downfall.

I have seen Der Untergang, Das Boot, Stalingrad. Don't rent them, BUY them. These German war movies are excellent and give you an idea how they lived through WWII.

Enemy at the gates was nice to look at, but indeed not very realistic.

Das Boot is great, and the book is even better. The author, Lothar Günther Buchheim, was a WW2 war correspondent stationed on a U-Boot, so he should know what itīs like.

The same way a Left Wing Looney Liberal with LIMITED combat experience would know. I get it first hand from people who have been there. I know that when you are an anal retentive punk with the mentality of a five year old, it is hard for you to imagine without being there FIRST hand. Suffice it to say that neither YOU nor I have been there. Many of us learn and understand the issues by listening to those who have been there and seeing the ACTUAL footage.

Now do me a favor and shove your opinion of me where the sun doesn't shine and where you do most of your thinking looney tune.

Dismissed Steve, you're seriously stuck on stupid.

My brother was there, I spent 18 months in Vietnam, we talk all the time which means you don't even belong on the same planet as the rest of us. You wouldn't recognize a war if it slapped you inside the head, something you could use right about now. When it comes to military service and war you are a non-existent pathetic wanna-be, trying to glorify yourself by wrapping yourself in your families war record and trying to speak for the guys who are really there. If you went over there and started spouting your mouth off like you do here, you'd have your d*ck handed to you within 24 hrs. But we all know that would never happen because one , you would have to serve, something you believe is for others then your pathetic self to do, and two, you would have to go to war, again something you believe is for others to do to protect your sorry pathetic a*rse.

Carry on you chickensh*t blowhard wack job

BTW..thought I didn't piss you off....hmmm may have touched a little nerve here ehhh Jimbo......

You could never piss me off Steve. I'd have to care, and I assure you that I could care less about YOU personally. What I do care about is our troops and the threat morons like you pose to them in accomplishing their mission.

Steve, I am more than willing to bet that I speak MORE for OUR troops, and that they would agree with MY view more than your pathetic misguided Liberal views. If you served in Vietnam, that would make you older than me, which I don't believe you are (which would be ANOTHER of your lies), and I find that amazing considering how naive, absurd and misguided you are about reality and politics. You sound more like an 18 year old than someone who is 52 or 53.

So continue your looney tune rants and your lies and distortions Steve. Without people like you illustrating the absurdity of the Liberals each and every day, we would have nothing to remind us how important it is to keep Liberals out of power and on the fringe which is where they all should be.

Carry on looney tune.

I am older than you and apparently much wiser, I did serve in RVN but I don't have to prove anything to a chickensh*t like you. I detest all you draft dodgers who always manage to avoid serving but are right at the front of the line to push others into fighting their meaningless wars. Go ahead, scream 9/11, I can scream OIL just as loud. If this was really about 9/11 we would be hunting down Bin Laden and bombing the living sh*t out of Saudi Arabia. Now you go right ahaead and start spouting your mouth off with that right wing gibberish but the bottom line is that it is always you yellowed belly blowhards that are always the wars biggest supporters. Again, what have YOU done to defend this country other than shoot off your big mouth? If you haven't served and you haven't gone to war than just STFU!

Carry on you pathic "defender of freedom" wanna be

And I can piss you off anyday of the week

Once again you resort to LIES. I am not a draft dodger and I find your moronic attempts to paint me as one offensive, but par for the course for a looney liberal like you who suffers a serious case of LIRS, Liberal Indistinguishable Reality Syndrome (pronounced liars). I did sign up for the draft but never got called up. I was too young to fight in the war moron. So please spare me MORE lies.

By the way, it was a DEMOCRAT who pardoned all those draft dodgers you detest. Another clue for you moron, they are WITH you and YOUR Liberal Looney buddies on Iraq as well. YOU speak more for them than I ever will. I NEVER supported a pardon of Draft Dodgers OR deserters. I guess this means you detest yourself, which is the ONE thing I could understand.

As far as your detesting people like me, more stupidity from the inane mental state that you are in. What you detest is that I am a patriot who supports our troops in the good fight they are conducting at this moment and doing the job they get PAID to do. I don't need to have fought in a war to know their sacrifice and support them in their efforts to defeat the terrorists who hide behind civilian clothes and blow up innocent men, women and children.

I don't know what planet you are on moron, but our troops don't get paid to sit on their butts and do latrine duty, they are paid to be the best killing machines in the world. And as we have seen, they do it better than any other force in the world. I am proud of them and detest morons like you (because you should know better) who want to SUBVERT their efforts in your insidious attempts to subvert their mission and their Commander and Chief for reasons even YOU can't explain except that you have bought, hook line and sinker, the Democrat objective of lying and divisive rhetoric to get power back at any cost.

You're an embarrassment to the uniform you now insult.

Once again you post lies as if they were facts. Here's a fact for you dumbass, we get about 8% of our oil from the Middle East, of which most comes from Saudi Arabia. Ask your buddies in France and Russia, who were against the war, how much they were getting from Iraq as a result of their payments of bribes in the oil for food scam.

Do you work to be this stupid?
