Default Wehrmacht soldiers´ oath of allegiance

In taking the Fuehrer Oath, the German Army swears allegiance not to the Republic, not to the flag, not to the constitution, and not even to the office of the head of state, but to Adolf Hitler personally who has now attained absolute power over the German people.

The table below displays the oath of allegiance prior to Hindenburg's death and how it read after its key words were altered on August 2, 1934.

Oath of Allegiance before August 2, 1934
"I swear by almighty God this sacred oath:
I will at all times loyally and honestly
serve my people and country

and, as a brave soldier,
I will be ready at any time
to stake my life for this oath."

The Fuehrer Oath (effective August 2, 1934)
"I swear by almighty God this sacred oath:
I will render unconditional obedience
to the Fuehrer of the German Reich and people, Adolf Hitler,
Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht,

and, as a brave soldier,
I will be ready at any time
to stake my life for this oath."

(from: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/...aust/oath.html)

1934:
...
August 2: Death of Reich President von Hindenburg. Hitler amalgamated the offices of President and Chancellor and became ´Fuehrer and Reich Chancellor´. The Reichswehr (that became the Wehrmacht in 1935) swears a personal oath of allegiance to Hitler.

Where is the part where if your relatives are embarassed about your Nazi loyalty they can just claim that they were the part of Germany that resisted Hitler?

That came after the war.

Just curious, did your relatives denounce Nazism before or after the war?

Some were considered "racially inferior" by the national socialists, so nobody cared back then, and they didn´t really have a chance to voice their opinion. If they clung to life, they better kept their mouthes shut.

The "aryan" part was married to the "unworthy of life" part of the family tree, which protected these family members from annihilation. "Privilegierte Ehe", or "privileged marriage" is what it was called back then. I leave it up to you what they thought of nazism; voicing opposition would have put their spouses in mortal danger though.

W the Chimp and his band of neocons may not have absolute power over the American public, but there are some eery parallels. It's obvious Cheney, Rice, Libby, Rove, Frist, et al choose loyalty to a Simian over the U.S. Constitution. To coin a phrase, they're Stuck on Stupid!

Nice skirting of the questions. What I find so amusing about this posting is how YOU appear so willing to post nonsense about my family.

Thanks Moomis, I think you hit the nail right on the head. What he is REALLY trying to say is NO, Moomis, like many in Hitler’s Nazi Germany who may not have agreed with the Nazi regime, they did not speak out because they knew the Gestapo would have hauled them off to be shot or work in a death camp.

Face it Hapag, you're now caught in your own Hypocrisy and you can't get up.

Carry on.

So tell me something Genius, how is it that they have "absolute" power over the American Public?

You’ve gotta love someone with the mental capacity of an ape calling the President of the USA an ape. You know Neil, if you are an American, what amazes me about the absurd statements like this from mental midgets like you is that it is further proof at what a failure our education system is.

I’m willing to bet that you aren't even old enough to vote. And if you are, you need to do a LOT of growing up. You're neither funny, nor are you very smart.

I’d like to be the first to welcome the new member of the Buffoon Brigade. You've earned it because you're obviously stuck on stupid.

One could also argue by not denouncing the Nazi's, that they were giving tacit approval to their ideology & policies. However, we will never know for sure, since I probably won't get a straight answer.

Hapag-Lloyd,

A little food for thought from one of your previous posts in another thread:

"Quote...

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me--
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Martin Niemöller

...that is all".

Nope, Jim.

Keeping yourr mouth shut so you, your spouse and children could survive (remember: the spouses´ relatives have already been hauled to the death camps) is not the same as collaborating with and propagizing the nazi ideology and even defending it with ones life by becoming an officer for the régime.

Sorry Jim. Nice try though.

@ Moomins:

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew; but my husband was and would have been hauled off to a death camp if I spoke out, along with my kids.

Need a hint??? How about taking a look into the mirror and asking to yourself seriously: look at me, look what they do to me, look how much B U L L S H I T they make me post, look at how much B U L L S H I T they make me believe...

Hapag-Lloyd,

I'm not taking a personal shot at your family; your heritage; or you for that matter. Members of my family in Germany during that period did the same thing as yours, but for different reasons.

My point is that is if you decide to do nothing and remain quiet for your own best interests, then it is a hypocritical position to flame someone because they did take a position. Whether they are right or wrong in taking that position, is irrelevant.

It's the same logic for someone who doesn't vote, but insists on bashing the government, or people who did vote - but have a different point of view than yourself. If you can't be bothered to participate, then do you have the right to sit back and criticize ?

Feeling senile, old man, or just going blind? Re-read my sentence to understand that it says...."....may NOT have absolute power....."
W the Chimp has little more intellect than an ape, as you'll likely see when his external brain is excised via indictment. (you're obtuse, so I'll spell it out.... an indictment of Rove would be devastating.)
My name is Neila, not Neil and I'm a proud American. My voter registration is actually as an Independent, but I share views from both great majority parties. Unfortunately traditional republican values have been hijacked by radical right-wing religious fundamentalists. Many conservative republicans are horribly disenfranchised by the neocon band that fronts W the Chimp as a leader.

You stated "but there are some eery parallels." But based on your inane response to me, it's obvious you don't work with facts and just want to play stupid name calling games and conspiracy theories about the DARK right who is trying to hijack democracy. Absurd to say the least, retarded at best.

Carry on looney tune, you're stuck on stupid.
