Burned oil and high octane gasoline on fire up of two Wright Cyclones or Pratts.
When you could stand right next to the wire fence behind a DC-3 as it fired up and turned to taxi, especially if it had been standing idle a couple of hours allowing oil to collect in the bottom cyclinders! On revving the engines the smell was awesome and, if equipped with short exhaust collector rings, you got some black souvenior drops.

Agree. It smells just a little different coming out of a turbojet rather than a turbofan, though. I prefer the smell of a Lear 24 taxiing out blowing it out of a nice CJ-610...or a Viper powered H.S.-125 (hawker)
