Interesting article. I would like to hear from military personeels whether they feel that they are doing the right thing by doing "police" job? I would like to hear from either Liberal nor Conservation whether you think 1800's law as source mentioned above do need revisit?

The Posse Comitatus Act is there to prevent a President from imposing martial law in violation of law and the other branches of government. It should stay in place and NEVER be permitted to be circumvented. This does not prevent their use for border patrol and drug enforcement at our borders and beyond. That is part of National Defense.
The National Guard is the logistical back up to the regular Army. Besides military police functions, they move supplies, build/repair infrastructure. They are the perfect troops to be used by governors in disasters and terrorist situations to maintain order. Governors have a long history of cooperating with each other in times of emergency and the Federal government helps pick up the cost. No, the Posse Comitatus statutes serve us well as written! |
