Philippe Goldenstein, 39, once a bodyguard for France's Grand Rabbi Joseph Sitruk, doesn't scare easily.
So when his yarmulke drew hostility on the streets of his native Paris, where anti-Semitic attacks are escalating, he fought back. ''One Arab on his bicycle called me a dirty Jew,'' he said. ``I had to beat him up.'' But like many French Jews who have settled in South Florida recently, Goldenstein and his wife, Katia, began to fear for their children, now 2 and 3 years old.... Yeah I've been hearing on the radio that there is starting to be a rise in Anti-Semitism in Europe a few months ago. Personally I think its because most countries in Europe didn't like it when the Isralies became independent and started to invade other countries.

There is anti-semitism in Europe but it is not a epidemic or anything like as virulent as prejudice against other groups such as Muslim's, North African's, Indian's, Pakistani's, Bangladeshi's, African's etc. There has been a wave of anti-muslim sentiment that is vastly more worrying than anti-semitism. Also, you should point out that the French government is coming down very heavily on anti-semitic attacks and that the bulk of French society is horrified by the high profile anti-semitic incidents,

LOT 737-300, Israel has never invaded an country because they "felt like it". The land they have taken was after they were under attack and they pushed they enemy back (The egyptians) and took the land that they had taken from the egyptians. But here what they did next, dont know the date, but they gave the land back.

I think he was referring to Lebanon. Without wanting to get into the "why" and "how" it happened, it did.

Israel did not "invade" Lebanon. They got tired of the Lebanese allowing murderous, terrorists thugs to use their border to kill innocent women and children living in close proximity. It was a police action to re-secure the border. They didn't stay or try to conquer as did the six ARAB legions who wanted to destroy the Israelis and got their sorry asses kicked back to where they came from. All this while the UN, the very body that helped create Israel, sat on their hands and DID NOTHING! I assure you that if it was YOUR country and the Polish were firing artilery and rockets at your people, you'd take care of it yourselves.....Oh wait, the Germans did that without an excuse. Carry on! ![]() |

For the record, the 3rd Reich is not my country. The Federal Republic of Germany is where I was born, 23 years after the end of WW 2, and this is the country whose citizenship I bear. The Federal Republic of Germany has never been attacked by Poland, and, neither has the 3rd Reich. WW 2 started when the SS staged a raid on a local radio station near the border. No rockets had been fired by Poland. Oh yes, there was a Polish "attack" in the 1980s, when a Federal German Navy support vessel had been hit by Polish rockets during a NATO manoever, injuring a few German crewmen. West Germany settled this diplomatically. The German vessels (PT boats, btw) did not fire back, and they did so to avoid a further escalation. Afaik, the Polish seamen responsible had been court-martialed shortly afterwards. I can check for more details if you want me to. At ease! ![]()

After thinking it over, I think I might have gotten something misunderstood. Currently we are learning about WWII in history class, and I might have screwed up over what I heard on NPR (I know, but at least it helps me from breaking my radio because of the other station's commercials) and what I am currently learning. Justin was right it was the Muslims, North Africans, etc. getting targeted.
Also I too am interested inlearning more about this polish "attack" in the 1980s. Can you please tell more? To N2272V: Just calm down, before you get a stomach ulcer (trust me I have 11, because I always used to be upset). First off you think that just because someone said one thing wrong that gives you the right to call them a lunitic or "****-for-brains" or even a liberal looney? Also you should see what a mess schools are here in Central FL, they are overcrowded (my school was just finished 1 1/2 years ago and was built only to accomadate 2,500 students, well by next year we are supposed to have around 4,000 students thus meaning they might have to build yet another one to accodate that). Despite that the teachers are trying very hard to get everyone educated, but most of them can't because they are forced by the state to prepare students for the FCAT (Florida's comprihensive test) thus forcing them to get away from normal studies. Also the "invasions" might have been something I saw on the history channel though my mind must have mis-understood. You know, insted of ranting, you could have also just corrected me, it dosn't offend me when I am corrected as I understand I could be wrong on some things.

Middle Eastern politics and history is a minefield and in many ways all the protagonists in the Israel-Palestine conflict are victims. Fundamentally the problem revolves around the Palestinian refugee problem, those Palestinian's who fled their homes during the 1948 war and have been used by the Arab states as a weapon and have had right to return home denied by Israel. About the wars, that is also very mixed, in 1948 both sides had planned to cross the other, in 1956 israel attacked in cahoots with France and the UK, in 1967 Israel attacked, in 1973 Egypt and Syria attacked and in 1982 Israel attacked Lebanon, with continuos border skirmishing all the while. what is interesting about Lebanon is that initially Israel supported Syrian influence in Lebanon as a stabilising influence, also the original Israeli policing action turned into a full blown invasion by Ariel Sharon grossly exceeding his authority by ordering the army to close on Beirut rather than the plan agreed by the Israeli government to secure a buffer zone. Most accounts in the West and Arab world are so one sided that it is dificult to get a real debate on the issue, in the West most reports concentrate purely on Israel as victim whereas in the Muslim world they have a exact opposite bias, both being equally wrong,
