Is this 9V-SPK or 9V-SPL?

Were both of them in the same colour scheme?

So there was never two at them in the Tropical colour scheme at the same time. I believe the model would be 9V-SPL as it would be same as the one I posted on my Feb arrivals 2 thread...It's a gorgeous aircraft !

Yes, there were two of them at the same time. 9V-SPK was produced and sold by RS too.

Two existed at the same time until one crashed and then SQ repainted the other...

9V-SPK crashed in Taiwan during a typhoon on October 30, 2000. Interesting that RS would make a model of it. I personally see nothing wrong with that, but I've noticed that it seems to be taboo in this hobby to make a model of a crashed airliner.

I don't think there's any difference in the livery - only the registration.

Yes I just noticed that...so bascially 9V-SPL got painted back to it's corporate colours, after 9V-SPK met it's tragic end. I know the one I have is 9V-SPL..Not a copy of the crashed jet!

Yes, interesting indeed and yes, it's a taboo but I don't know why. It seems that it's OK if the model is released before the crash/incident but not after.

The same does not apply to models of the Titanic. Very strange.

Strange indeed! Like I said, I don't know why...and it seems OK with the Titanic. But how about the train, bus, motorcycle or automobile models that people have lost their lives in?

Mine is also 9V-SPL. What a pity. If it had been 9V-SPK I would keep it.

I believe our fellow forum member, Jason, has both the 9V-SPK and 9V-SPL models.

I'll bet the SPL is quite rare and limited production.

Not sure about that, but I've definitely seen SPL more often than the SPK. Besides, RS website lists the SPL stock with (20) available at the moment.

Just go to their website and check out the listing for the Tropical model and you will see "(20)" written next to the entry.

I would say that whereas Herpa did abandon its plans for a SQ B747-400 Tropical in Premium quality after the crash (there were already photoshopped pictures) Risesoon just didnīt care and produced them anyway.
I have an SPK, too, and honestly I donīt care if it is SPL or SPK... |

Randy, did you mean the SPV is the rarer one, considering that one crashed
Thanks D-AIHC, I have seen that number before and just thought it was some code. |
