Default LEGO Contest w/ Prizes!

Ok, there has been a bit of interest in building LEGO airports here recently, so I had an idea. I am initiating a contest for best LEGO airport built. Everyone (except myself) is eligible to win!

Chris at Tristar Airplane World has graciously donated a great prize. The winner will receive the JET-X United 727 2-pack (727-100 and 727-200 in old livery) 1:400 die-cast models! Thanks for the donation Chris!

How can you beat that? You get to play with LEGO blocks and can win some great models!

Here are the contest rules:

1. The model airport must support a minimum of 7 gates.
2. The model airport must be at least 90% LEGO blocks. Aftermarket jetways, decals, GSE, etc. are allowed. Anything else must fall in the 10% catagory.
3. All submissions must be in by Sept. 22, 2001.
4. Winner will be determined by a future POLL on DAC, with DAC members declaring the winner.
5. Contestants must declare their entry to flick70@yahoo.com. Also, a post on this thread will help me keep an eye who wishes to be contestants.
6. Photos of the final airport model will be sent to flick70@yahoo.com so I can set up a post for the POLL, no later than Midnight CST 9/22/01.

To help you out, there are 3 very good resources to obtain bulk and specialty LEGO blocks

LEGO Corp - sells bulk LEGO blocks in assorted sizes and colors.

Brickbay.com - is an auction-like site that lets you choose very specialty-oriented parts.

eBay.com - I think you might know this one.

I am not an agent for any of the above mentioned vendors. The links are provided for informational use only.

Good luck, I am sure we all are looking forward to your creations!

Default Count me in!

Well, I'm already working on my airport, so I guess I will join in here. Plus, I'd love to add some work horses to my fleet!

Default Progress Continues

In the hope of spurring some competition, here is a link to some pictures I have been taking as my airport progresses.

((I had a link to my airport here, but I yanked it to keep it "hidden" until the end of the contest. In its place I offer another picture of the LegoLand Billund Airport.))

Default Thanks for your kind words,

though I'm not counting any chickens yet.

Though the scale is closer to something like 1:90 or 1:125, the Lego airport at LegoLand Billund is a marvel to behold. I have seen it in person and it is fantastic. Truth be told, seeing it on my trip in July is partially responsible for finally spurring me on to making my airport.

I did not write the following nor take the pictures, but the author does a great job showing the highlights of the Lego airport at the LegoLand in Billund, Denmark. The page is very large and covers many topics, so I have provided direct links to the two best pictures.

Specifically these two pictures:

Hello,

Sounds interesting. What scale does the airport have to be in?

I might try one once I get home from holidays (10th of September)

I have a general rule that they must be in 1:400 scale, but honestly 1:500 scale is welcome too. All competitors must have their pic submitted to me by Midnight Sept. 22nd. I hope you can join in!
