We've just added a people mover and four new gates for Alaska Airlines. Here's a couple of samples, there's more in our "New CCB Field" album at our Photopoint site.

KJC,
It's not a DC-10 but a MD-11. No, Alaska never flew them, but it's one of a series of fantasy airliners I'm making just for fun.

The details are pretty simple. I scan the art or logo I want to use and download it into Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop I can retouch or modify to fit my needs. Once done I save the finished art as a PICT or JPEG. I transfer the completed art to a program called Adobe Pagemaker. In this program I adjust to the size I want and then print using "Super Cal" decal paper on an Epson ink jet printer.
For gates I use Gemini jetways and make the structure from Evergreen Plastics styrene sheeting. For the people mover I used two "S" shaped extrusions and glued them together. This gave me the recessed guideway I wanted. I braced it with an 1/8" styrene strip underneath and added legs on the terminal structure. Hope that helps, Chris

I like the composition of buildings with angles, corners, edges and bridges. And, yes, the "sky cab" gives the entire scene a very nice touch. Well done!

The cars are made from 1/4" styrene extrusion from Evergreen Plastics. I simply cut them to the appropiate length, file and sand to shape the ends and add decals. Pretty simple. I guess I could add more detail, but this seems to be OK.

Chris, excellent job!..
Thanks for the great work. By viewing your work and your directions for assemply, you have given me ideas on how to construct the Air Train monorail system, currently being built at JFK airport, for my JFK project. Not to mention the actual train cars. I thought I'd have to buy one of those 1:500 scale bullet trains from Plastruct and then cut it and shape it down to size, but thanks to you, I no longer have to.By the way, anyone working on building parking garages for their model layout? When I look at Jack & Chris jobs, I see love & passion involved for creating such a nice diorama of our giant lovely flying iron birds.

Unbelievable. I always look forward to seeing one of your postings. I am still in awe over how you make your airplanes. I know you explained it somewhat earlier but I don't get it. Are you able to buy airplanes with plain white fuselages and then apply your own artwork? These are truly great pieces to look at. |

Dragon makes a 767 and 747 that are white and only have printed windows. However, the models we've modified so far were all Gemini's. The Aloha B-757 was British Airways and the Alaska and Dragon MD-11's were World Airways.
The Tampo printing on the surface of the model can be removed easily with nail polish remover. However, you must be carefull not to touch printed surfaces like windows that you don't want to remove and don't press so hard that you'll go through the base paint. In my case I use cotton swabs to remove the paint. It's a slow process if you do it right but it works quite well. Hope that helps. Chris

Jao,
Yes, it will work on the metal portion of a Dragon model the same as on a Gemini. I've not tried it on the plastic as I'm afraid it may have some reaction.
