As an avid diorama builder, and hoping I can assist others with actual dimensions needed to do the "piano keys" and fixed distance markings typical of most airports, I can help you by supplying you with copies of actual "REAL" engineering drawings used to lay out the markings used. I must emphasise these plans are a few years old now but are fairly standard of airport markings used here in AUSTRALIA, so if you are stuck for ideas, send me a PM. Can also supply parking position markings of older airport powerin/out markings also.

I look forward to discussing our passion on Saturday Steve.
I suspect it will be a loooooooooong lunch, after a good mornings spotting at the airport first. All is going to plan at this stage so I will be there and hope many of the ADL collectors come along. |

I have seen your work at CAM and it is extremely impressive to say the least.
What is the length of the diorama at the rear. It looks about 11-12ft. I will be eager to share horror stories also when the best laid plans go seriously wrong and I know I have a few of them. |

3.6m long by 1.5 wide, 6 weeks to do the buildings, roughly! and then post everything over, then fix stuff that got broken in transit and then ROB and Mark with me got it all together in 2 days. 500 scale was the big thing then and allowed a lot more scenery to be shown. Bloody big thing to create in a short 2 days and even worse when you live interstate and fly in early one day and late the next. If i lived in melbourne I could have done a lot more but time constraints were against me. Steve K BTW it was finished in Late MAY 2002. ![]() |
