Default Sxm

I set this up to use the end of it for some 1/200 photos, might as well do 1/400 while I'm here.
I built this diorama after a visit to SXM in 2005, the new terminal was under construction so this diorama was modeled from a architects computer version of the completed terminal. Today the new terminal is completed and after seeing a photo on A-Net, it looks like I will have to do some minor alterations to the ramp area. Some close ups of the models will be posted on 1/400 forum......

Excellent work.
So realistic.
You must be an architect by proffesion.
Did you use styrene to build the terminal?

No I am not an architect, but thanks anyway. 99% of the building is cardboard, the stuff they use in picture frames, very good cardboard but a little pricey. Evergreen plastic was used for the trim around the roof and the vertical posts. I just replaced three of the four jetways with the new GJs. The ramp will need some re-work so it will conform with the real thing.

Just booked a flight to SXM for a couple days, staying at the hotel that overlooks the end of the runway opposite the Sunset bar. Hope to get some good photos of the new terminal and ramp (under construction when I was last there) and will update this diorama. Cocktails while spotting at Sunset beach.....doesn't get much better than that.

Hi Stevej.

Have you made your trip yet??

I have promised myself to do just same trip to SXM and stay at one of the hotels opposite to Maho Beach bar. Best way to see the birds arrive.

Please give us a trip review when you have returned back from SXM.
