Default Airport of the Month: Ramsgate Airport UK

This building was (criminally) demolished in the 1980's. Designed by the Architect D Bouvier-Pleydell (I think), the building was among the most beautiful meetings of form and function, it was designed to look like an aircraft with a fuselage and wings. Certainly, it seems to be the Airport Architects Airport of choice and I personally prefer it to anything Richard Rogers or Norman Foster has designed. Your comments please. If you guys actually dig talking about airport buildings as I do (Hi, Dylan), then maybe a different Airport next month, or week. Who knows.

You're right, the distruction of that building was criminal. Do you have any more pic's of it. I would love to have them in my personal library.

A travesty indeed! I had no idea this building ever existed...thanks for shedding some light on it fo me. These are by far my favorite types of terminals: small, retro-modern, beautiful, elegant, and designed to make one immediatly think of air-travel upon seeing it and walking through it's doors. The sad thing is these great buildings are disappearing at an alarming rate.

I know Dylan, I could not believe that 1, I didnt know about it till a few years ago, and 2, that it was levelled in the 1980s. Use the link and get a feel for the 20s. It looked gorgeous inside. Mind you, so did the original San Francisco terminal. The glory days are gone.
