Default scale question for anyone who might know the answer..

Hello...

If I wanted to create a model airport with full-length runway, would I take the actual runway length, let's say 11,500 ft., and divide by 400 to get the equivalent length in 1/400 scale, which by may calculator would be 28.75 feet? Seems right to me.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

Ha Ha...yeah, I know...thanks for that confirmation...not a long hallway, but hopefully one day a BIG basement! Which of course would have to be even BIGGER to allow for a full set of approach lights on one end! Am I mad? Probably. Maybe I'll only do a 9,000ft. runway? Well, I have a lot of years, I'm sure, to worry about this!

and also divide the width of the real runway by 1/400.

A funny mathematical reality about scale models. In the case of our beloved 1/400 models, they are not 1/400th the size of the real thing. They are actually 1/64,000,000 the total size. They are 1/400 the length TIMES 1/400 the width TIMES 1/400 the depth.

In other words, imagine a box that a real 747 would fit in. It would take roughly 64,000,000 Gemini 747s to fill that box up.

Oh yes, the width, too, I know...

That's amazing about the scale issue...my God, 64 MILLION??!!
