Grass?

Does anyone have any ideas on household items that can be used as grass? What about other techniques that could work? And what is the best thing to use? Im trying to finish up my 2 regional airports this weekend so what ever works would help me.

I second what the person above said about woodland scenics stuff. I recently made a diorama for a model I am waiting for. I used a forest green spray paint as a base, and then mixed green grass and burnt grass together for that semi-parched effect. In hindsight, i probably could have done a better job of it, but for my first time it ain't too bad.

You can find this grass at most hobby shops, and certainly those that specialize in railroads.

I saw in a brazilian store located in São Paulo grass for sale to be used on trains dioramas. I am sure it will fit OK in our airports.

woodland scenics is the bomb. some velvet would work too.

My girlfriend would get really mad if I trimmed the material from our crushed velvet couch.

Last weekend I have made a little diorama with grass. I used the grass for train models. Just put some wood glue on the places where you need grass, and then sprinkle it on the glue. I will show some pictures later.

Grass? Well, why waste it on the airport when you can use it with your peace pipe?

Hadn't thought of using green spray paint as a base, but I too mix and match some of the yellow and even the earth color when doing something. The nice thing is that you can have a "patchy" look, where water collects off the taxiways, and have greener grass around parking lots, where more time is spent on maintenance.

Yeah, since it was my first time doing this, I was afraid that the primered (white) wood would show through the grass. I put two "coats" of grass down, I don't think the wood shows through, but i'd rather be safe than sorry. If the grass is for a 1/400 scale airport, layering/depth of grass may make a difference, as you don't want the grass to look TOO unkempt!
