The Few, The Proud, The Elite

If some of you are tired of fantasy, ready-made and/or watered-down airport threads, I've grown tired of responding to threads from those of whom I will coin "elitist".

This is the small group who believe they carry an air about them without considering the air which exudes from their backside. These are the guys who have a penchant for building the best possible model airports from scratch.

Considering that this is the largest and most time consuming project in the diecast realm, it amazes me as to why they share so little to the complimentary responses they receive. It baffles me when little or no information is given on the ends and outs of their grand airports. Sometimes, tidbits will be exchanged with regard to the materials used, but apart from private messages/email responses, that's about it. If these guys think some of our scratch and ready-made projects are a waste, then their ability to communicate their presentation is a total waste.

One would expect that if fellow enthusiasts came over to veiw their work, there would be praise and an exchanging of ideas about the whole project. The conversations would spill over to that particular airport and the past and present airlines that utilize it. But, if it turns out to be a one-way conversation, I can only feel sorry for their guests. This one-way or no-way I'll talk appears to be the conversational route for the so-called elite.

If they can gather the wherewithal to communicate some historical facts, anecdotes and anything else about their airport (my god, throw us bone), it would make the presentation so much worthwhile. That goes for all of us.

me neither kaitanium... i thought i was the only one... i was trying to search if he had any threads he may had concerns with, but i wasn't able to find any... i am lost as much as you are kaitanium. again, we think alike? haha.

To put things in simple perspective...WHO CARES..I thought this was a HOBBY we are ALL supposed to enjoy, we all need our little "outlets" from the real world...isnt that what a hobby is????????

I think this was meant to be an extremely ambiguously-worded salute to those of us who design our own terminal buildings and bases.

I have a HerPort with Herpa terminal buildings and a PiXelPort base, and I don't mind. Of course, some terminal renovations may be in order soon...

I don't get this either. If someone is going to start YET ANOTHER bi$ch-session-thread here on DAC (like we need another one of THOSE?!), could we at least be CLEAR and TO THE POINT? Jeesh. I PRESUME you're complaining that people who build these fabulous looking airports don't conduct training classes along with their posted pictures??? If that's it, well....in my experience, training classes usually cost money! Now, I find it hard to believe that the average person would not reply to a polite "how to" question, but it sounds like you're asking for a training class in a forum post. Get real. And I'm not "elitist", I'm just using common sense.

Well, I don't think hes complaining about people who don't post how they did everything in their airports, but rather how when someone asks how something was done, 80% of the time that question will go unanswered. Now I'm still trying to make sense of this post since it was first posted.

hey fazeman, how about giving us a better explanation than that dialogue you got there. apparently you want the community to know something and not explaning it might just lead to a build up of tension within yourself no?

In thread #1, my first sentence did not make sentence sense. It was vague, grammatically incorrect and it failed to properly convey my ideas. As a result, everything else suffered. So, I will try again.

I enjoy viewing and reading the posts on this forum.

This includes "in the works" airport projects, fantasy projects, ready-made projects and scratch projects. Accordingly, I have responded to a number of these threads with praise, questions, historical suggestions and friendly jokes. But, over the past couple of years, I have noticed the lack of a quality presentation to go along with many of these projects (my old ready-made included).

Along with pictures of the final project, a good presentation would start with one's personal interest in their airport. This would be followed by historical notes on the real terminal, the airlines that call and/or called it and any anecdotes that may follow; something to kick the reader in the arse. Without any kind of presentation, it would be like setting our project on the teacher's desk and giving the class a blank stare; just student utterances of how we made it and how beautiful it looks.

With reference to the attitudes of some seasoned scratch builders, I've grown indifferent to their presentations. And for the ones who sell their scratch airports, guess what? They sold out to the other side. They might as well mass produce their airport like Herpa's Frankfurt Main based terminal buildings.

I figure that if we're enthusiasts, let's be enthusiastic about raising the bar with our projects; beginners and seasoned veterans alike.

ah i see, now wasnt that easy?

as for people like me with airports that dont have history or are based after any reallife airport, i did it just to stretch my imagination and handiwork to see what i could come up with. i personally rather come up with something of my own than be limited to what the world has right now. im downright proud of my airport even if its purely fantasy.

You pulled out all the stops with your airport design. The Evergreen hangar and activity, terminal flags, night activity and of course, the earth friendly terminal roofs are the best. It has been a work in progress that I have thoroughly enjoyed following. I saved a number of your pics. Thanks.

still more to come no doubt heheheh >=D. i just got my own soldering iron in today so its only gonna go crazier with lights now...if i ever find the time.

You have a good point there and I share your views. I'd like to point out one exception though - STEVEJ over at the 1:400 forum. Whether it's LGA or LAX or any other diorama he built, he always has an introduction and explains why certain models were used in his pics.
