Default My First Model Terminal

I just discovered the existence of 1:400 jets and man am I hooked! This is my first attempt at building (and posting) a 1:400 scale airport. It's more of a terminal, actually, as I don't have space for an entire airport. I wanted to design something that looked like it came right out of the late 1960's, but could easily be modified to look like a contemporary facility (I would just need to update the planes and gate liveries). The tarmac is something I crapped out in Adobe photoshop and it lacks the proper ground markings. I am also still building the control tower and I need to come up with some light poles as well. i am not completely happy with the jetways, as they look a little toy-like, but it was all I could find in 1:400. I hope you all like it.

Wonderful job David!!! If this is your first attempt, I'd hate to see what you could do for an encore. Try painting and detailing the Gemini jetways....it does improve their appearance and make them look less toy-like. Again, your terminal looks VERY realistic.

Very good model I think, it reminds me of the Terminal at Lambert Field in St.Louis.

Nice job and sweet collection. Also really like the fact that you've just gone ahead and built something rather than talking about them which has become so common on this forum.

I agree. From these pictures, it looks like we've got a master airport builder joining the ranks of DAC. Great job!

The arched roof was a clock radio I bought at a thrift store for $2.00, I just emptied the guts out. The square structures on either side are plastic electrician's outlet boxes (the blue ones available at hardware stores for about $1.50). I built the whole structure in a weekend. I had been collecting pieces for months. I was recently in an accident that left me injured and stuck at home, so I thought it would be a good time to build my terminal. I am so glad you all like it. I've been watching this board and others for months admiring the hard work everyone has done in their miniature airports and am glad to be able to finally post something.

First attempt? GREAT JOB! Good to see some old DC-9's & L-1011's. Those Aeroclassic's look fantastic.
