That´s the best way to make more room for our models.

Beautiful Sanz man.

Nice job! Which Ikea display cases are you using?

Great looking tarmacs you got there. I like the idea of little "mini" scenes to display your models.

Excellent use of space when there is no room for a monster size layout. Great job.

I also love the Ikea collection, however, one of my glass cabinet just broke the entire glass at the back panel within 2 years of purchased. I spoke to the customer services of how I can replace the glass, they simply told me to buy a whole new glass cabinet. I was upset about it since I didn't shoot a bullet, or heats up, or placed it in a very humid area , how can this happen, & even the Ikea customer services claimed the glass was highly saftely standard. Anybody had the same experiences...?

Hi Diecaster,

I cannot speak either way for Ikea as I do not know their product. I can suggest that you visit GEMO at www.gemodisplays.com. They have a wide range of full size display cases for the serious collector. You can customize your case(s) by choosing how many compartments you want with standard or mixed heights. They have many features and options to choose from.

Custom Size Ranges:

Compartment height: From 10" to 32"
Compartment Width: From 24" to 48"
Compartment Depth From 10" to 24" (depth is what counts for our aircraft)

See their price calculation details for the dimensions you want for your case. Contact them with any questions at info@gemodisplays.com.

I have the same display case and I think you may have over tightened the bolts that go on the threaded ends of the shelf supports. You know, the metal rack that goes from top to bottom and the wood on the top and bottom of the finished case screw to it to hold it all together. If there is the tiniest flaw (pressure point) in the glass and excess pressure is applied, well you know what happens. If it were me, I'd go to a glass shop (window glass) and have them cut me a new panel from salvaged glass. Most shops save any half decent pieces of the plate glass when they are replacing a store glass door or window. They use it for just such purposes, all they have to do is check to make sure the piece doesn't have any bad scratches on it and they'll cut it and sand the sharp edges for you for 50% or less than what you would pay for brand new glass. Just make sure the thickness is the same so the glass panel will sit down in the channel in the wood top and bottom.

I've done this in the past, as a matter of fact, I had 4 more metal cross bars that the shelves sit on, welded to my case so I now have 7 glass shelves. I display 1/72 tanks so I didn't need 15" between shelves, 7.5" works great. When I had the welding done I spray painted the new braces with aluminum paint and had 4 glass shelves made from salvage. It looks just fine. Good luck.

What a great idea for displaying your collection without it cluttering up the room, as many model airplanes tend to do!
