November 1, 2005 is the first operational day for KMAD/IAC. KMAD stands for Mario A. Di Lorenzo International Airport and IAC stands for Intercontinental Airport of Columbus. KMAD is located in Columbus, OH, the capital of its state. Delta currently operates a hub at KMAD at Terminal B. Other airlines at terminal B are, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and America West Airlines. Terminal D, the other domestic airline terminal, carries Northwest Airlines, US Airways, Lufthansa CityLine (operating domestic flights), Continental Airlines, American Airlines, and KLM (domestic service only. The service is to Mykelton International, another KLM model airport). Terminal A and C are both “L” shaped and are both international terminals. At terminal A there is Air France, Lufthansa, Qantas, LOT Polish Airlines, Air Canada Jazz (leased RJ from SN Brussels), British Airways, and Alitalia. At terminal C there is Air New Zealand. Air New Zealand is the lone operator at terminal C until November 30, 2005. On December 1, 2005, Edelweiss will start flights to Zurich and Cathay Pacific will start service to Hong Kong and Beijing with the A380. There are five parking positions for five wide bodies at the Cargo Center. 6 parking positions are made at the hangar. Two of them are for wide bodies. Throughout the airport, there are a total of 5 parking positions designed to fit the A380 (including the hangar). KMAD’s one and only runway is 20/02. Right now, there are three SkyTrains running. One from terminal A to B, one from Terminal B to D, and one from terminal D to A. SkyTrains connecting passengers from terminal B and D to terminal C will be up and running on December 1, 2005. I am very excited to open the airport after many delays. I will try to get pictures up as soon as I can on my site (www.freewebs.com/marioair/). Since the WebsAlbum doesn’t work on everybody’s computer, I will provide links with pictures. This is a 1:500 scale airport. I am looking forward to your comments and suggestions. I will try to answer all of your questions as best as I can.

Why don't you post to the web album on www.modelairports.net? It always suprises me how much work people put into websites for their airpoerts yet they leave out the one thing that is the main/only reason people visit....PICTURES!
Anyway, hope your pics have the same level of detail as your website. Good luck! |
