There's always the chance that he was in the northern suburbs of Miami who got the eye of Katrina when she was but a wee Category 1...

As far as the original question and airport is concerned:

I'd recommend using Herpa buildings and PiXelport ground foils if you're looking for an easy solution, otherwise use Evergreen Plastics and make your own base for that custom look. Regarding the location, you could even have the "command post" scenario with some military transports carrying hurricane supplies to and from your airport.

For a cheap solution:

Make some buildings, using cardbord and paper...
and use this link http://www.airigami.net/airportshop/foils1.htm.
edit the foils on a computer, and print it out.... it is working for me...

May you post the result?

I'm an absolute beginner: i would like to know which result can be obtained with airigami foils.

Many thanks in advance.

For a base, I basically used paintmarkers and a foam board and colored pencils (along with some help from the FAA docs on W900), it went ok. Also on the buildings, I'd recommend try not to use too many colors with the legos, I guess you can check out my website to give you the idea of what I'm talking about, its in my sig. Like vegaswoods said, it will get better over time, especially when you learn more about making airports by looking at the forums and such.

I'm using a couple of Pergo floorboards I had leftover from when they were installed in my house a few years ago. Considering that they're supposed to withstand the punishment of having people walk and put stuff on them, they should serve as a perfect base to the airport.

Once I lay out the PiXelport foils on the floorboards (centered, with the empty space left over to be taken up by more grass foils), I glue 'em down and let them dry. Now that they're firmly secured to the base, I take an Xacto knife or something similar and cut along the lines where the boards meet. This makes storage easy. I just seperate the floorboards and pile them in the garage or under the bed. The rest of the airport (buildings, aircraft, GSE, etc) go in that box you see in the pictures I've posted.

I initially went with ordering the foils from PiXelport, but when I made some adjustments to my plan (and realized that I forgot to order some and most of the foils I needed were out of stock now), and I bought the Foils 1:400 CD. Once it arrived, I took it to Kinko's and had them print out the foils I needed on photo mat paper, and using a paper cutter, I trim off the edges, and then you can't tell the difference between that and a PiXelport foil direct from them. At $1.13/copy versus $2.83/foil + S&H, it works out great.

Things have progressed since the pictures below were taken, but they give you a general idea of how the airport is being built.

In that case, I know how much the aftermath of a hurricane sucks. I made it through Hurricane Andrew in 1992 (we evacuated from our North Miami Beach apartment to Florida City when it was predicted he'd hit the northern part of the county... needless to say, he didn't), Hurricane Irene in 1999 (my parents worked on a TV show for Discovery Latin America back then, and the studio was in Swee t w a t er, an area prone to flooding, and lo and behold, it was under six feet of water), and Hurricane Katrina when the eye hit my town (in Miami of course). I can but imagine what it must be like over there. Mandeville's just off of Lake Pontchartrain, isn't it?

I have a Real Job besides the Other Job Of Model Collecting that has me "putting the pieces together" after an "event" TOO Many Times including H/Cs Andrew (Homestead) and Katrina (MSY).

I applaud you for "Getting Back To Normal" and your display which under the circumstances is Good, but would agree since You are doing 1:200 the Cardboard or Paper Terminals, etc. would be better.

Suggestion to maybe cover Pasta or Cigarette Carton(s) as Terminals can work (did one that way) and Herpa is coming out with 1:200 GSE.

Good Luck and Post Your Results!!

Yes it does I mean when i go to the grocery store i still see debris on the side of the road and this is January 2006. parts of New Orleans still don't have power. I was in the French quarter the other day and it is about the only place in Orleans Parish(what we call counties in Louisiana) that has power. Also i went to the zooand they need money to help the animals so if you could please give to the audubon Zoo & Aquarium almost all of the fish died but thanks to some brave police officers the peguins did survive! Anyway back to the airport i think i will go with airigami.
Thanks for all the help

This is going to end up looking interesting. Just some advice to make it a tad more realistic, why not add some numbering to those runways. Also, how is the airport going along now? Did you just get done with the runway?

A lot sorta makes me uncomfortable with this, you might need to rework it a bit. Here is some advice on what you might want to do. I see you might already got some of the taxiway down, thats good, but there is one thing that dosn't seem rlight. that taxiway is too close to the runway. You might wanna spread it out, I suggest possibly 5-10 inches of speration, possibly more (I'm not too familiar with 1:200 (just try a sepration of 1 runway width.) Also, try to get the 27 on Runway 27 to be white white as well. Other than that, looks ok, but I would love to see other parts of it as well.

Are you gonna paint the 'buildings'?
