Hi Everyone !
Well as a matter of fact I'm absolutely new to this hobby but have always fascinated of making my own airport model .Finally after months of hunting and research on the web and following this forum message trails I have decided to begin my model of New Delhi International Airport (1:500 Scale) . I guess so far I haven't seen a single posting on any airport from south asia I have already purchased Herpa airport building sets, gangways etc etc required for the layout. Currently I am in the early stages of design of the airport layout but its gonna have the following features (as planned) 1) Terminal 1 - with 5 Pasenger aerobridges 2) International Terminal 2 with 10 Passenger aerobridges 3) Sky Train connecting Terminal 1 and 2 4) Airport Express Train connection from the city(not in the model) to Airport Terminal 2. 5) A Single Runway connection to both terminals [there's space for only one runway left :-( ] 6) Ofcourse Terminal 2 will be the hub for Air India and you will see lots of Air India Planes around but the airport will also have the following airlines connections - (I have already purchased the 1:500 scale aircrafts) Japan Airlines (JAL) Air Nippon Airways (ANA) - Although ANA doesn't connect to Delhi Yet Thai Airways International British Airways Lufthansa Alitalia American Airlines NorthWest Airlines Qantas Singapore Airlines Cathay Pacific Air India United Airlines Continental Airlines Air France Air Canada Still in the middle of preparing the rough sketch of the layout and I will post it out here for comments for all you experts out there I intend to start the construction of the airport somewhere around 1st week of july. Will Keep everyone updated. Oh Yes and I was looking for suggestions for what kind of lighting I shouls use for the runway and taxiway ? Please advice. Thanks -N- |

Hi All,
I was finally able to finish a rough sketch of the layout of my proposed airport. I managed to squeeze in 12 gates at the international terminal 2, while the Terminal 1 will have 4 gates plus one extra parking place. Unfortunatey I could not assign gates for Air Canada, Air France, Cathay Pacific and Continental Airlines. Maybe they will be able to share the gates with other airlines Any other airlines which you guys may want to fly into my airport would be accomadated gratefully So would be expecting comments/ suggestions from all experts in airport design on my sketch. The construction will begin by next weekend after I sort out a few other minor details. Will be posting pics of the actual sketch when I am done with it ...so "Namastey" and Welcome to India !!!! Thanks -indy- |

Hi there,
Congratulations on this great decision you've taken. I am glad to hear about new scale airports being built. I am specially enthusiastic about an airport in India since I consider the Air India livery to be one of the nicest and most interesting around. Regarding the airport organization I have some suggestions: You could use parts of your airport for different airline alliances such as Star Alliance (Lufthansa, United, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada) Skyteam, OneWorld, etc. and the airplanes don't necesarily have to be all in together. Perhaps you could rotate them once in a while? This makes your airport less crowded, and more realistic at times. I can tell you this as a personal experience. Also, if you are interested in making your airport more realistic, I would suggest you keep different scales separate. I've seen some airports with same planes in different scales, and it looks a bit odd. I don't know, it's just my opinion. Just a few suggestions. Good luck! Sandro. PS. Any space for an Ecuatoriana A310?

Hi Bob777/Ramstein ...well this model of south west airlines i recvd as a free sample with the herpa airport set I just purchased...this is what it says on the box of the airplane ..it is in 1:500 scale but is very small aircraft
will post the pic here tonight.Waqqport Thanks for all the suggestion...I will keep that in mind and will re-arrange the planes according to the alliance ...I think I will assign Terminal 2 - Right- wing (Gates B1 to B6) as Air India Hub while Terminal 2 Left Wing (Gates B7 to B12) to Star Alliance.....Rest all can be accomadated on Terminal 1. I was actually planning alter the master plan and shift the ariport train station a little and add two more departure halls at Terminal 1 for additional 2 gates. You see I am crunched for sapce before my airport has started PS: As far as Ecuatoriana A310 is concerned ...you can arrive at Gate B2 . We can probably arrange for overnight parking also !!!! ![]() |

I think he might be reffering to the China Southwest Airlines A320 and not WN as we know it here in the states and as for the BA 777, I have a BA 777 in Landor scheme thats in the old box (that was before the 773 or any of the other 777 types) and it says simply Boeing 777 on the box, so I could see he might have mistaken the simple Boeing 777 on the box as 777-100 insted of 777-200, what it should be.
Anyways its nice to see you are altering your plans a bit. Thats one thing about airport building we all go through, and thats changes. Good Luck on your airport.
