Default Just another one of those airport projects....

So I figure that I have done sufficient on this project to post a few photos. The diorama is 84" x 36" (that would be about 210cm x 90cm for the Euros in the room! (and before you think I'm trashing Euros, I'm one myself so 'nuff said!

This first one shows, obviously, the overall thing to date. I have a total of 19 passenger gates including the two remote easyJet stands and the one remote RJ stand. Of the remaining 16 gates, 12 can accomodate up to 744/773/346 equipment. Three of the remaining four up to a 763 and the last one up to A321/753.

Lots to be done stil,l including something on the streetside of the diorama around the parking -- I've done nothing there yet. Other immediate necessities include a GSE service road around the perimeter of the terminal itself and access roads from the main ramp area perimeter road to the terminal building.

Feedback is welcome! The buildings are all Herpa 1:500 and the a/c are all 1:400

This is the domestic, or Euro wing of the terminal. It can also serve international overflow when required.

Nice work!

I guess you didn't have a problem using 1/500 scale buildings with 1/400 scale planes-?

Are the jetways 1/500? This is where I keep having my issues.

However, it seems to work great for you. Guess I'll give it a try.

Nice to see the whole thing, thus far!
Looking great!

And I think the 500 vs 400 thing is working pretty well here.
I don't find it's noticeable at all, except maybe with the smaller aircraft (RJ and small buses). They do seem a tad big when compared to the multi-level terminal building.
But the heavies in your international section fit in ...bang on!
A good selection of visitors, too.

I love looking at creations like these. I'm glad there are people like you - and the others here - with the skill, patience, inclination, time and money - to make them for us. Thanks!

Nice work. Keep going!

vegaswoods.......no name for this airport, sorry. I didn't really consider that to be of a priority nature when putting it together, but I suppose most members in this forum do name their project. Perhaps I'll consult with my project PR Director yyzjo777 and get some input.

boeing707.......1:500 buildings and jetways, 1:400 model a/c. I was very reluctant too insofar as I bought the former before I had so much as seen a 1:400 model. I stressed for days (literally) until my first models arrived in the mail. Once you get over the initial shock of how large the 744 looks and the tail in fact exceeds the height of the terminal, it's all good! I would urge you to use these jetways, although others much wiser than I around here will tell you otherwise. I extended the length of two of the jetways with some plastic material picked up at a local hobby shop. I think if you look at one of the pictures you can see the KLM-Asia 744 and the BA 767 beside it are at these particular gates. There is also a way to lower the height of the Herpa jetways by doing some simple modifications to the wheels. I have done that at the "domestic" end of the terminal, otherwise the gates line up way too high, particularly with some of the smaller a/c types.

WheelsUp!........your kind words are appreciated. I think I had a good idea from the get go as to which models I wanted to build the diorama around. Although there is no "name" and no "location" specifically for this project (well, I suppose it's really located in my condo but that's of no interest to the member base here) I can tell you that if you look close, the vehicles are driving on the left side of the roadways. I suppose a quasi-Heathrow thing, certainly with a similar airline base and destinations, so I went nuts and bought the Euro and the Asian models. Anyhow, glad you enjoy the work. I can totally relate to your comment :

It's kinda like Christmas, it's better to give than to receive!

Here are my sleazyJets at the ghetto gates......LCC=ride the bus to the terminal, buddy!

Late!

Smile Fantasy Flights into JCIA NYC

I would like to have fantasy flights into your airport from Johnamon City International Airport in the Heart of New York City. Unlike anyother airport JCIA has not one or two but many airline companies serving it. I am interested in having flights with your easyjet 737, british airways 747, Virgin Atlantic a340 and air canada a340. See I just matched some of the planes I had to your all you have to do to begin flights into New York City is end me an e-mail to Pazbien@earthlink.net or visit my airport website at www.geocities.com/pazbien2004/JMCIA and look at it and decide once you decide e-mail with your response(y or n). If it is a yes tell me which planes are you willing to use for the fantasy flight and what departure time, your airport name. etc.
Hope to fly into your airport soon.

lollomz, McLaren3465 and pazbien......thanks guys but I'm gonna take a pass on the "fantasy flights." Having given it some thought, I think my fantasies involve more than airplanes and model airports! lollomz, I did receive you PM, sorry for not replying but I've decided that fantasy flights just aren't my thing!

The attached photo was actually taken before I completed the wing marker striping, so you'll notice a few of the gates missing more than just GSE in this image!

Thanks again guys, sorry I can't work with you on the fantasy flight -- good luck !

Malcolm:
Your second-to-last photo (the one before the Speedbird) was your best one yet! Well done.

A seldom photographed model......I moved the table to get in behind it and get a better view of this beautiful bird. You can also clearly see the extension to the jetway in this image......

Glad you like! The Marriott is obviously just a change in the "Main Terminal" construction of the HW kit. I've seen several posts in the "Custom Models" and there is surely a less costly way to make signs/logos other than the manner I chose. I buy Avery brand InkJet shipping label sheets, but they're the clear ones. Expensive as all get-out but they do the trick. I download the logo, use MS Word in the "labels" mode, import and re-size the logo until it fits whatever it is I need it to fit, print it, use a razor to cut it and........a sign! Pretty simple.

Default A vs B

I respect the Boeing fans within this forum ( well, most Boeing fans........) but I guess the A340 series is my personal favorite.

I hope we don't tick off the moderator or the webmaster too too much by posting all these images!

The 340-300 China n/c......sweet!

Default A v B part II

Despite living here, there are a lot of things Canadian that I dislike.....but the colors of this a/c I just LOVE......something about being VERY far away from home and seeing the "flag carrier" at the gate (alas, I guess there's no flag carrier anymore, is there!)

(this is an older photo before the striping was complete at each gate)

Last one.......DW VS A340-600 the biggest piece of crap model I own but the real one looks great! (This photo was taken a few weeks ago with my "trial run" diorama.....see, I dislike this model that I paid too much for so much, that I haven't even taken a picture of it with the new diorama!)
