Wow!!! Can't wait to see it finished! If this level of quality represents a first try, I can't wait to see what you are capable of once you know what you're doing.

Seriously, very nice! By the way, what scale?

Excellent work so far! I use the Herpa 1:500 jetways with my 1:400 diorama. The scale is just fine. Some minor modifications required to the height of the wheels on the jetway for smaller a/c such as A319, A320, A321, B737, B757. My opinion, stay away from the Herpa "double" jetways.....stick to the single gangway style, the others are a pain in the ***.

The attachment illustrates the 1:500 jetways with various sizes of 1:400 a/c. By the way, the terminal as illustrated was my first attempt......scrapped it last week and started from scratch. More images to follow once I feel it's worthwhile showing!

Good luck!

Thanks... some answers...using a combination spruce, foam board, plastic and balsa. Just started to paint, center complete except for car ramps, they will be intsalled last. Jetways will have to scratch built, working on old terminal roof at this time. The hardest part was research and making the drawings.

Radioflier, that really is awesome work. I urge you to consider the Herpa jetways, however. I believe it will really make your life much easier. Simply cut out a large enough opening at each gate to accomodate the jetway.

McLaren3465 thanks for the kind words. Coming from yourself, I'm flattered (I've checked out some of your stuff -- very impressive.) In fact, the building as illustrated above has been dismantled and the board trashed. Wasn't at all happy with it. I've now set out on a layout 84" x 36" to start. I'm reluctant to post images of the project until it's well underway. Should have something to "show off" by the weekend.

And just a footnote, guys -- I joined this forum a few weeks ago in an effort to learn and to share. Lately, many of the threads have been nothing but members trashing other members and trashing their efforts. Good to see a constructive thread!

There are two problems with this, one, if you see those additions on the end of each gate area, thats where each jetway attaches and is very narrow and long. the other jetway at each gate is attached to the side further up and is very very short. Second , there are close to fifty jetways on this whole thing and that would be too expensive . I think I could scrtach build one that would fit better than anything I could trim to fit. Thanks for the suggestion.

Radioflier.........I attach this image that I "stole" off one of these sites. I take no credit whatsoever for this. The reason I saved it was that it is a rather unique means of extending a gate. Again, the builder appears to have used modified "stock" jetways. They're really not that expensive, I think under $4 USD each (available as Herpa Accessory Kit V in packs of five.) Props for the patience and the ability to create such a masterpiece!

You can use GJ Jetways. They are pretty big. Or if you want buy the herpa jetways and make the base yourself from wood to fit in the slot in your terminal. then get a small 4 way hinge and attach the the part of the actual jetbridge (the part that rests against the aircraft) and use the hinge to attach it to the wood base. Then paint the wood and your done.

That pic. is one of HNL-Chris's airports (One of The greatest airport buliders out there). All you need to do that is some evergreen plastic and jetways. the only problem is that the jetways are expensive. $20 plus tax USD for a pack of 5 non hight ajustable jetways where I get them from. The GJ are 3 in a pack for the same price and they are hight ajustable. Herpa also sells another set of jetways that come 4 in a pack: 2 duble, hight ajustable gates and 2 of the regular gates mentioned above for $14 plus tax USD.
The place i get them from is www.airplaneshop.com

When I bought my first model PAA 747SP , I bought the GJ GSE and seem to remember it had 1 jetway in it, I forgot about it, have to see if I can find it under the 240 boxes on top of it. Have to brickface all the gate areas before the jetways go on anyhow.

Hey Radioflier.....I have several pics I took of Terminal 3 at JFK. If you need any photos of the ramp area leading up to the rooftop parking, chat me up. I am currently working on building all the terminals at JFK. Will be 2-3 years in the making, but nonetheless, you have Terminal 3 dead-on. Excellent work. So far, my version of that terminal is just a big piece of styrofoam cut out in basically the same shape as yours. haha. That piece I will throw out, and will just take a big piece of wood and carve it out, including the center which can be difficult to build. The oval roof will be a ***** to build. It isn't just a flat oval-shaped slab. It has these pieces of rectangular shaped pieces jutting out in a geometric shape from the center on the top. I have rode the Airtrain many times around the terminals and have taken some nice pics. Not sure how much the terminal has changed since Delta took over from PanAm. I know that Delta has it's name spelled out in huge letters at the entrance of Terminal 3. Not sure if PanAm did when they were the tenants.

Could use any close ups you have, everything has been done by background aircraft photos and airshots from some books I have. I spent many hours on that roof taking pictiures when PAA was there , I havent been there since DAL took over . Carve, thats sounds pretty drastic, I built mine up out of foam board. The oval wasn"t as bad as I thought, getting the oval right was a b*tch after that it went pretty smooth, just have the outer rings to do, hopefully by friday. I dont have any pictures of the south facing wall as you would see taxiing in from 31L , that will be a best quess as to whats there.

Default Spectatular!

You give the rest of us a real challange to try and keep up. Very, very nice. Can't wait to see it finised. And by the way, I recommend Gemini Jetways. They're more flexible and easily modified.

Aloha

Thanks, the more I get used to working with this material, the quicker it moves along.. Decided for economic reasons to go with Herpa jetways, ordered 25 of them today.
