I've been out of the model airport business for a few months now and am interested in getting back into it. I've become a fan of southwest airlines and decided to build a replica of a small southwest hub. Southwest has dozens of small hubs. Can anyone give me any ideas. Maybe 8-14 gates.
Thanks HB

Southwest doesn't actually operate a "hub" system.
Really just dozens of point-to-point facilties. ![]() Are you going to be making something up from scratch or doing a real airport? A fantasy airport sounds like it would be more fun to me. Kind of like a small Islip, NY terminal with some Southwest stuff. Come to think of it...Islip sounds like a good one. There's my recommendation. ![]() -Rich |

HOU is nearly all-Southwest. Its not a complicated structure and the architecture is classic. At least it was the last time I flew outta HOU.

You could model part of BWI as their concourse is almost like a hub setting. Of course, there is always Dallas Love Field. Good luck with your endeavor.

Bryce,
Although I am saddened by your choice of airline I really think you should do Palm Springs KPSP. It is a beautiful little airport with 8-10 gates set up in a single rotunda fashion. It also has a pretty neat roof on it a little like HNL-Chris's Punahou rotunda....except reversed. Look on A-net for PSP overviews and I think you will like it. Also the size is perfect and you could add lots of palm trees Take care and good luck with your project Dylan

The Terminal which Southwest dominates at TPA is interesting since they can have as many as 15 flights on the ground but I believe they only have 10 Gates.

Albuquerque! I'm doing Albuquerque Intl. Sunport for my next model. Southwest has 7+ gates. The airport has 23 gates total. Does anyone have any terminal pictures of ABQ?

Good luck getting terminal pics. It's pretty much impossible to see the terminal from the FBO's as they got 8 dug up. They also have 17 in the works so now we only have one runway for the big jets. I'll see if they left by the next time I fly and try to get some pics.

Cool! Southwest has gates 4,5,6,7,8,9,10,and 11 in the A concourse, well at least their website says so. Here are some pic's of the terminal at Albuquerque. I know that the jetways are a "statue of liberty" green and the terminal is a brown tan color.

I'll get started during Mardi Gras (End of February - Start if March). I'll start absorbing info now and collecting pictures. Thanks for the ones so far.

in southwest lingo HUB is a 4 letter word.
a good location could be Oakland international. terminal 2 has 8 gates and is all southwest... terminal 1 has 17 gates shared by another 12 or so airlines.
