I have noticed in MANY airport pictures that you all are parking planes like 747, 764, 763ERs, 757, and sometimes L1011 and MD-11/DC-10 with the jetway at the very first door. This is not accurate. Almost all of these park at gates with the jetway at the second door. The exceptions are domestic L-1011s, 763 and DC-10s. If these aircraft are international, more times than not, they also are parked with the jetway at the second door.
Not only does it keep the planes from sticking out into taxiways, it allows for quicker passenger boarding. Hope this info helps those of you with airport diaromas.

Good tip. If the plane has an L2 door, I most always use it on my airport for space purposes.

hmm interesting point. Unfortunatley WTL policy enforces that all aircraft load at the first door

Great point. I've been parking larger aircrafts with gates positioned for second door as actual airports do the same.
Dual jetways are helpful too... ![]() |

It also depends on what the gate space is like, if the gate is shorter and can't reach the second door, than the first would have to do. The second door, if available (some 763's don't have them), makes the boarding process a bit smoother. At Heathrow once, we did have to board a Virgin 747-400 through the number one door, so, this isn't always true...
