Pier F, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, The Netherlands

All comments/questions welcome as always!

Above: Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's main building. Opened in
April 1967 by HM Queen Juliana, Schiphol is the home of the national airline KLM
(Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, Royal Dutch Airlines), and
the hub of its worldwide passenger and cargo network.

Above: KLM's latest 747-400, "City of Shanghai", being prepared for
13 hour long-haul flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong, as flight
KL 887. Note the Aviobridge OTW (Over-the-wing) boarding
bridges that reaches conveniently to the center of the left
side of the plane.

Above: Northwest Airlines' recent arrival from Minneapolis/St.Paul at
Gates F4 and F6. As one of KLM's codeshare-partner, the Northwest planes
have the privilege of parking at Pier F, usually reserved for KLM
widebodies. In the foreground, a KLM Asia 747-400 "City of Mexico" at rest at gate
F8 after a long haul polar flight from San Francisco, California.

Above: Parked between two KLM 747-400s at gate F9 is
KLM's MD-11 "Audrey Hepburn", after a long flight from Quebec.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'd like
sugguestions to where I could improve on the
model also, so please feel to post any criticism as
well! - Wil 1/27/02

Frequently Asked Questions Added 1/27/02

What are the jetways made of?
They are made of Plastruct parts: solid/hollow styrene rods,
hollow styrene square tubes, styrene I-beams. The support
structure for the over-the-wing jetway was made of a wire, with
plastic-paint on the outside. I'm pretty sure it's a Plastruct
product, but I'm not sure what the product name is. I found this
in my local hobby shop.

Can the jetways move around, like a herpa jetway?
Sort of. They can swing clockwise/counter clockwise, but
they cannot be adjusted up and down.

How are the parts held together?
All the parts are cemented together using Plastruct Weldene,
a styrene solvent cement, which is advertised as "non-toxic",
whatever that means. (I say you should still keep your work-
station well ventilated when working with any chemical, whether
or not it's labelled "non-toxic" or not.)

How are the parts sized and cut?
A mitre-box, with 1" x 4" metal-saw; and wire cutter (for the
OTW structure)

What film and camera was used to take the photos?
Canon EOS ElanIIe, with Fuiji ISO 200 film, using the "DEP"
(depth of field) function, which allows photos of up to three model
aircrafts in focus, rather than just one aircraft.

Can you post more pics ASAP?
I took one roll of 36 frames, and I think just about the
best ones, I've already posted. I won't have time to
take another roll until next week. Perhaps you'd like me
to post some messed-up photos taken without the
DEP function, as a contrast to the nice photos I'd already
posted? Please let me know.

Although I never been to AMS, but it looks very good.
I can see that you also spent some time on the GSEs as well.
Great job!

Looks about as good as it can get! I have seen Architectural models that are not nearly as good as the above.

Eureeky:
If you buy it, I'll build it

Smoothjazz:
I'm still in process of building Pier E, which is next to Pier F, and
it's taking lots of time. Especially all the tarmac markings,
I'm looking at about 5 different photos to try to get everything
accurate. And it's taking lots of time to paint all the markings.
I'll update when Pier E, and its photos are ready. I don't know
when that will be...
