Default New to the Diecast club, advice needed...

Hello fellow enthusiasts

I am looking for a nice diecast model or two for display. Iam especially keen on the Israeli F16 by Witty Wings, however the fact that the landing gear is fixed is a small bit offputting.

I also saw that they do an Israeli F15D but on closer inspection from pics on the web it looks like the canopy shape is very wrong...? Can someone confirm this is an issue on production models as well.

In short I am looking for the best diecast representation of the F16 and F15, and also a Spitfire... prefably a MKII (BOB period).

Am I correct it thinking that only WW is doing IDF/AF liveries?

Oh, and my prefable scale is 1/72.

Many thanks!
G

Any suggestions, pointers and advice welcom.

The Witty Wings F-16 is OK to get if you don't mind the fixed landing gears.

All of the Witty two-seat F-15s have the canopy shape wrong. I would avoid unless you must have an IDF F-15D.

There is really no great diecast representation of the F-15 or F-16 currently. Both are offered by Witty Wings and Dragon but neither of them are really that great. On the other hand, many of them can be found for decent prices so if you're not the picky kind, they may be great value for you.

Hobby Master recently announced that they would be making F-15s and F-16s in the near future but it's not yet known exactly when they will come out. It may be quite awhile. But it may be worth the wait because Hobby Master generally gets it right with their models. I would recommend getting only a few of the Witty/Dragon models as stand-ins until the Hobby Master models come out.

As for the Spitfire, the best one that I know is the Mk.IX by Gemini Aces. I believe Corgi did the Mk.II but I don't know how recommendable it is.

Welcome to the forum

Corgi does indeed make a range of Spitfires including the MkII. Their latest releases are very good from what I've read on other forums. However I think the MkII is still waiting to be remade. You can go for an early release MkII as some collectors think it's alright. The one criticism I'll say is the lack of dihedral on the wings. Best to check one out before buying in case it bothers you.

Gemini Aces are good for the Spitfire but they only make the MkIX.

Thanks all for your valuable advice. How do I tell if I get the Corgi Spit that it is the newer mold? Also does it come with a stand too?

Thanks again,
