Just out of curiosity: how do you decide which model to buy or not? It seems such a wide variety in themes that you collect.

Every individual is different just as buying a model. the biggest quetion is what type of aircraft someone likes...a modern jet or a prop-driven aircraft. Then comes if one likes a certain nation or an international one combined. then, what era do you want...pre-war, post war, cold war or real modern aircraft thats flown to this day..then theres what type you want..an experimental, a trainer,a frontline combat jet,a reconnaisance aircraft, a transport aircraft, an airforce, navy or marine aircraft, There are so many factors to consider before going on a shopping spree for diecast collectors, then think what scale you want that fits your room to put a nice display cabinet or shelves....the last is...how much can you spend...as many know by now...its such an addicting hobby...

Personally, I love jet aircrafts since the F-86 era. I prefer collecting American jets since the beginning....after having enough modern jets, i shifted to WW2 aircrafts and at the same time, collected helicopters which fascinates me, Regarding foreigh aircraft, i just took the 3 most known german and japanese just to satisfy my curiousity how they look like, There are still much nice aircrafts to collect but ive got to be very selective due to space problem

Now I want a Herpa B-2.

Is your Memphis Belle the first release corgi AA33301 or the US33315 release?

I found someone willing to part with their first release, but I think I offended them with my offer, as I haven't heard back from them.

Good add with the Devastator. The quality is impressive for a Sky max. Have already added a Kate to my PTO collection along with a JASDF Phantom. My first Japanese planes

Great additions mar_ji. I looked all over for that Devastator but seems pretty hard to find. I reckon thats the perfect scheme for one. Settled with the USS Enterprise release (SM8004) alongside the USS Wasp one (SM8002). I think its a great rendition of this aircraft by Skymax, they are among my favorite models, hope you are pleased with yours.

Well, I was just too lucky to find it at my local hobbyshop same as the memphis B-17. Prices of both these particular models are 3x their original price when found in the net or hobbystores.....thanks for the compliments....

Nice additions. The Kates are awesome. I like the Memphis Belle next to the F-14. It really contrasts the technological advances, and how huge the Tomcat really is.

Do you have an Me-262?

I dont have any plans to get Me 262 and I limit myself to only prop aircraft in my WW2 collections. My plan is to get FOVs B-25 and perhaps get back to collecting modern jets....as always I have to be very selecting in choosing and as much as possible,Ill get just 1 for any type due to serious space problems.Ive still got no F-106 and F-101 to complete my century series.....

Have you seen a 101 in person? It may change your mind. An awesome model, and huge... that's right... huge may not be so good for you.

The Montana ANG 106 is a definite pre-order for me. It will be my first. I hope to get all the 101's.

To me the 262 is the only WW2 jet. The others were never really historically effective. Adolf Galland's last war ride was a definite for me. Dragon did a great job, even though I got the White 3 that some other pilot defected to Switzerland with. Much cheaper than the ones with his name on the box.

the 262 is admittedly the 1st jet during the war but what i like collecting are mostly major players and really well known...for the Germans were the BF-109, Stuka, and FW-190 and on the Japanese side were the Zero, Kate and Val....and for the F101 ...am just waiting for a better livery that has been operational and not for experimental or training squadrons.Im surely getting the Montana F-106 which looks real cool to me......

That Val is a monster! I didn't realize it was so big.

Great mug. Where did you dig that up? The DVD may need to come up a shelf. The nice accessories add depth to your display.

That's the Avenger I want. It is becoming rather scarce here lately. There is a similar one with a yellow leading edge on the cowling, but I like the one you've got better. I don't like the darker, sea blue aircraft the Navy adopted toward the end of the war like your F4U Corsair. They don't display well IMO.

I like my Paris Air Show F-5. It's abeautiful model, but it doesn't fit in with other model themes, other than showbirds. If they would release some different variants with camo, I would get them and display them together. My Sundowners aggressor version is on my "International Aircraft" shelf. Maybe I need to swap them and put the aggressor with the other Navy planes, or with my new Witty F-16 aggressor.

I love that A-7 Marauders Corsair II. It is almost impossible to find. I saw one on eBay, but I'm officially broke.

My last buy for WW2 era aircraft will be a B-25, either from corgi or forces of valor. the choice is not much tho at least at my local hobby store. I guess ive got all I want with regards to WW 2 aircraft in my collection. Considering the very limited space, a few more modern jets will do for me in the future.Still waiting for the arrival of a couple of Saabs, Vigilante.hawkeye, prowler and perhaps a nice lookin B-52 in 1/72.....

I think a Corgi B-25 is a must-have. Don't have one yet, but if I could find this one (Corgi AA35303 - B-25 Mitchell Diecast Model, "Bats Outa' Hell": The Flying Mule) at a reasonable price that ships to ZA then I'd take it.

I'm not holding out much hope for Aviation 72's Viggen and Draken, are you? I have a suspicion they are going to be pretty rudimentary, gear-down only etc., but would love to be proved wrong.

if i recall, ive read somewhere that aviation72 is postponing their release of the drakens and viggens till december, I still put my trust that they would be producing a good mold of both models if they want to be recognized as a good manufacturer of diecast...among collectors,
the aviation megastore is one of 2 local hobbyshops where i usually buy my models for a number of years....but still, heavies from corgi, like B-17, 24, 25 and British heavies easily sell like hotcakes and are soldout just after a couple of days

I had a look at Aviation Megastore online, would love to have one like that nearby, sadly the only thing remotely similar is almost 900 miles away in Johannesburg. I can only buy online, from my mate ZS-VAN, or from a small toy museum here which sometimes gets a very limited stock.

By the way what do you think of Skymax's new F-84G? I think it may be my second one. SkyMax diecast 1/72 Flying Heroes Series Aircraft SM6008 F-84G Thunderjet K-171, DU-24 Klu Netherlands Air Force1950

Great additions. I like the Mitchell and jeep together. It adds a sense of scale. What brand is the jeep, a HM? I've been planning on more accessories myself... a few jeeps, a HUMVEE, a duece and a half... Many plans but I have to slow my pace a bit.

The FOV looks like pretty good quality. The J model is my favorite. I don't like nose art that covers the entire nose, but other than that, it's a very fine specimen. Nice weathering. I feel bad for the port gunner... he won't be able to hit anything with that barrel.

The Corgi B-25s are too scarce lately. I love the US35307, but it's very expensive now.

Corgi US35307 - B-25 Mitchell Diecast Model, USMC VMB-433, "Lassie", Solomon Islands, 1944: The Flying Mule

I'll just have to wait until one I like comes my way.

You're in trouble now. I was digging through my old model kits, trying to sort them all, when I ran across an old Dragon Panther (60011). It tempted me to get a few more, just so it wouldn't be lonely, but I followed my line of thought and realized that I'd better stick to aircraft for my own financial security.

I still plan to get some to compliment the aircraft, but will have to stay disciplined.

I have so many 1/35 armor kits that I know I'll never have time or patience to build, but the prices are really deflated on ebay now. I'll probably have to bundle them to compensate for shipping. I even have a Hasegawa 1/72 Phantom G Wild Weasel. I think I should mail it to William at HM as a hint.

I see that you also have the A6E Intruder (US Navy, VA-115 Eagles NF500 1996 SP) I bought one last week at the Aviation Megastore, I noticed that the vertical stabilizers were very loose, what is the status of your vert. stabs on that particulair model?
Maybe mine has something to do with the collectors that it has number 1499 out of 1500 and the guy who built it wanted to go home to his wife.

I think your talking about the horizontal stabilizers. My Eagles A-6 came with loose stabs. I returned the model for a replacement.

What's with the artificial horizon in the second pic? Is the hangar built on a hill or is that one of YOUR "repairs"?

theres most probably a wheel change going on when the pic was taken hence , one of the main landing gears was jacked up just like changing a flat tire of a car........you really got sharp eyesight,scott......

The Chief !!! Looks great. I love the bomb load on these birds. What is printed on the starboard side? Another Chief, or something else? Very tempted to get this bird...

This is one of HMs finest molds IMO. I think it has to do with the size. A real beast.

What kind of Witty stand are you using on your other Aardvark?

to be honest, Im not so sure anymore,,,,I still think it is one from SU-27 Flanker which has almost the dimension between the centerline of both exhaust pipes....just check it before buying the Witty stand anyway,scott......by the way, the front gear of the F-111 in the pic is wrongly installed....its now corrected....
