Default CW A-6E VA-115 Eagles NF500 1996 Last Flight (CW588783)

This is one of my favorite Intruders – took me a while to track it down, but I finally managed to get the original release (not the recently released CW778979).

A little history on this model:
As you know, CW has two intruders both painted as the “CAG Bird.” The recently released CW778979 (tail number 155704) was actually the first one to be painted in this color. Unfortunately it was shot down by accident in 1995.

A replacement aircraft (the original release – tail number 155662, the one I have) was re-painted in the same scheme. This one was the last A-6 to leave Atsugi NAF in 1996. Therefore I wanted the “Last Flight” rather than the one that was accidentally shot down – that’s just my personal preference. Otherwise this review serves for both CW588783 and CW778979, the only difference is the tail number.

Anyway, here’s some pics:

Can I say as a photographer your photos never disappoint. Do you shoot for a living?

Nice model too!

lol I don't consider myself to be "professional" photographer (not even close). I just like a clean background so I got one of those small 24" photo cube, this one:

Anytime I get a new model I just put it in there and snap some pics for the forums. Thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it.

The recently released CW model - CW778979 (tail number 155704), not the one depicted in the pictures above was shot down during RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific Exercise) - world's largest international maritime exercise.

It was during a live-fire gunnery exercise as part of RIMPAC 1996 that the Japanese Asagiri class destroyer "Yuugiri", accidentally shot-down the US Navy A-6E Intruder, BuNo 155704, of VA-115 Eagles. The aircraft was towing a target drone approximately three miles behind it when the Yuugiri inadvertently targeted the towing aircraft, rather than the target, with its 20mm Phalanx Close In Weapons System. The Pilot, Lt. Cmdr. William Royster and Bombardier-Navigator, Lt. Keith Douglas, ejected and were immediately rescued.

Nice setup. The lights are some serious gear. What body/lens combo do you use?

Right now I'm just using a old Sony DSC-N1 camera, other times I'm using my iphone 4 camera

That will change in the coming months when I get a Cannon T3i Rebel. Gotta save up the money first...but I keep spending them on models lol.

Same here. I had considered getting a DSLR but diecast airplanes were just too tempting

I think your model pics are fine as they are. If you're doing other photography stuff, then yea I can see why you'll want a DSLR.

Excellent standard of photography SuperKungFu. I agree with LanceB it's incredible what you are able to achieve without professional equipment.

Keep up the good work

Good model of the A-6 by the way.

Saw some pictures of the A-6E and realized that AN/AAS-33 DRS (Detecting and Ranging Set) under the nose looked more like a ball and was not sticking out as much as shown in the model, is this a mistake made by century wings?

I've always loved A6 intruder .. but due to space limitation, i decided sometimes ago, two intruders were more than enough .. but seems i will (again and again...Lol) broke that commitment .. after seeing this pic

Amazing how your pictures never fail to make us crave for a model even more, I'm no exception. Just got the later release of the va-115 eagles from flyingmule at 59.99. Keep making reviews and keep up the great work.

Can't help, but viewed from the side the Intruders looks like something that only can be loved by a mother

Thats a REALLY nice setup. If my own photos are ever to match yours I'd say I may have to invest in a similar configuration. That light box and extra lights really helps doesnt it? And of course the camera too. Might want to look into getting my own SLR camera. Nice review Super.

Just curious though, you've been adding a lot to your collection recently. With the recent Space shuttle and about 8-10 other models you recently got, where do you find the room to display them? Last you showed us, your display case was filled to the brim!

He never mentioned it. And if that were true, I dont think we would be seeing him complaining about how he can't find a good place to display that Space shuttle of his.

P.S.
He's not the only one finding it hard to find space to display these models. Over the course of the last 6-8 months, my collection has ballooned from a humble 2 diecast models, to 22. By the end of the year it will be 25. Man i really need to stop soon....

I just bought a new cabinet a couple days ago, I'm waiting for delivery.

Yes I've been swiping my credit card a bit too much lately to buy these new models. The majority of them are sitting on my ping-pong table (yes gathering dust). So until the new cabinet arrives....I'm all out of space.

But even if I get a new cabinet, the space shuttle is still a problem since it is quite tall. So moving the shelves around within my curio does create problems for the other models. I'm thinking about giving the space shuttle it's own small cabinet like this one:
solid oak 12 by 12 by 24 inch doll case display | eBay

Very good SuperKungFu. I trust you will post up another thread showing the new cabinet display. I did enjoy viewing your first thread. Good idea with the separate case for the Shuttle. It should make for a nice display.

Indeed, the credit card can take a pounding when collecting diecast aeroplanes. Something we ought to bear in mind
