Smile Did I sell this Tomcat too low?

Hey guys,

How are you doing?

I had to list one of my Century Wings Tomcat last night because it doesn't fit my criteria of collecting. Mainly because this 'Cat is in a different position than the rest, therefore, it looks like the odd one out.

The model in question is Century Wings F-14A VF-84 Jolly Rogers #AJ202 - Kneeling Position - 1/72.

CENTURY WINGS F-14 TOMCAT VF-84 JOLLY ROGERS #202 RARE - eBay (item 230447573401 end time Mar-10-10 10:04:47 PST)

I've only just recently returned to collecting these gem, having acquired the very rare Black Bunny the other day.

So yes, my question is, how much is the model above normally sell for? I'm not disappointed at all since I definitely made some money out of it and I believe the model is going to another good home (looking at the buyer's previous purchases).

Please share your input.

Cheers,

Hendra

Well let's put it this way. VF-84 AJ202 was the fastest to sell out from the retailers online. Last time I saw one on ebay in a USA listing it sold for just under $400, but that was back when it seemed all diecast was going for really crazy money. $120 US dollars is seemingly low. I would guess that in this market this particular VF-84 Tomcat should normally sell close to $220

Everyone talks about the rarity of the Vandy 1 but from what I've seen AJ202 and AJ203 show up ebay the least often.

Thank you for your feedback.

I should have done my homework in researching the on-going price first before listing it. Nevertheless, I will still commit to complete the sale.

Cheers,

I believe the timing wasn't right.
a.) Century Wings is about to release a new 1978 Jolly Roger F-14 in April- AJ207. Of course it's not the kneeling version but the reason why some of these JR planes sold for such a high price was because people wasn't able to get them. Now that a new one is about to come out, potential buyers are not as committed to buying an older release when they can simply wait. Granted it might not be as "special" but in this economy, people save wherever they can.
b.) it's tax season, people are already low on cash as it is lol.
c.) it would be best not to use a manufacturer's photo, use your personal photo to give some confidence to the buyer that what they are seeing is what they are going to get. Even if it is such a picture of a box...it tells the buyer what kind of condition it is in.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Oh I just realized that this wasn't an auction setting- that would explain why it didn't jump. If it was an auction I'm pretty sure it couldn't reached higher rather than "Buy it Now"- only 8 people was able to view your listing.

Hey mate, you should of posted the sale on this board, you would of had peps drooling all over it lol

Never sell your collection on ebay especially aussie ebay, theres just no demand for them here, I sold a few, albeit not rare models but I got way below what they sell for retail and they were NIB !!!

And on the other hand you get the peps that want to much, I saw a guy trying to sell a Do17 BOB AA38801 for $AUD $175 incl postage Buy it Now and its from a hobby shop so its probably an ex display model which has been heavily handled while you could get the same model NIB from the Mule for roughly AUD $140 incl postage, you could by another model with that saving

Thank you for your comment.

I listed this auction only last night. I slept and over night, someone hit the BIN, hence why there may only be 8 people who viewed the listing whilst active before he hit the BIN.

Anyway guys, I'm not complaining with the "low ending price". I set that price up myself in a Buy It Now with Best Offer format, not knowing this model is worth more than what I thought.

It's all good. In the end, I made a profit, which is very rare in the diecast world.

Hey Super, do you know if theres any demand for the bare polished metal spitfire ?

btw how much was the Tomcat originally ? Is it sort after because it was sold in limted numbers or because of the aircraft ?

I've been thinking of buying to invest, any tips on whats hot ?

The demand of a bare polished metal spitfire will vary depending on who made it, what scale, what's the detail level...etc. If it's like an original mold for a factory- that might be worth something. But if its just from a kit- it may be a hard sell since not a lot of information is known- a person would have to do a lot of work to it to make it display ready.

The original CW tomcats was actually considered "cheap" in those days. Well back then I thought it was expensive but today is getting a bit ridiculous. Last summer I picked up my AJ201 for $57...now its like $89 for one of the new ones lol. Buying to invest might be a tough one considering CW is flooding the market with Jolly Roger schemes. They are still worth a lot of money since the demand is still high....but at one point if they continue on this trend...the value of these models might take a nose dive...

If you want to invest...I would pick the really rare models out there...like the Japanese exclusive Sr-71 and the F-14. Those I suspect would jump in price in the future.

Sorry, I probably should of given more info, I'm talking about the polished metal spitfire from corgi in 1:72, I don't think it was limited and if you can still buy it or not as can't find a release date, any demand for that or worth getting for the future ?

How can you tell if a model is going to be sort after in the years to come ? For me, I just think its a matter of a model being produced in very limited numbers, even if it was the ugliest model made, peps will still want it for their collection lol

Is there any way of knowing the production numbers before purchasing ?

Also I recently purchased a corgi "Donnie Boy" P-47 which was limited to 750 but its rarity index is 1, how is that not in demand ??
