Herb, got my own personal tour of the two parked Hansa Jets at KTOL. They are former Grand Air/Cherry Air birds and one looks to be in BAAADDD shape. No idea on regs or serial #'s

Bitching pics Dylan the Hansa is/was such a cool machine. Didn't Modern Air have one? Im sure it was in Prestwick on delivery, late 1960s early 70s. SHame there is little need to preserve them but it looks like one there is gettin a bit too far gone now.

Dylan,
A million Thanks for getting those pics. They're amazing! It sucks to see the Grand Air such bad condition, but very glad you have it documented. You got yourself a print! Is Modern Air Okay? Will PM you. Again, Thanks for taking the time for such an obscure aircraft. They are invaluable! Prestwick, Will post the Modern Air in a bit. I'm just leaving the office, so bear with me. ![]() Awesome job Dylan! You Rock! ![]() Herb-

Thanks Herb a very nice bit of graphic design, there is an Ian Allan book which I have and the aircraft is sitting on stand 4 at Prestwick, I assume on delivery. Unless they used it as a crew ferry in Europe to support the Berlin operations. I can also remember the CV990s in PIK too

Not Herb's bad, MY bad. Herb had posted some other stuff here. And since this section sees about as much action as a 41 year old World of Warcraft player on a saturday night in his mom's basement, I thought this was a good spot for it as it won't get buried too quickly with all the riff-raff thats been going on in the 1:1 and "what if" sections.
It's okay when I do it! ![]()

Dylan,
Thanks again for posting these rare images of an all but forgotten aircraft! With all the great detail close-ups, my sketches can be updated. Look for the Grand Air/Cherry Bird to come soon. I promised the wife of the owner quite some time ago, a print. Now it can be completed! Best, Herb

Just came across this thread. Great pics. A historic aircraft from the dawn of corporate jets. All known airframes in the U.S. are grounded because of life limit of 15,000 hrs/15,000 cycles, whichever occurred first.

Hey guys,
I have just seen the photos for the first time and maybe some of you are interested in more informations on the shown airplanes. The blue/white one is Hansajet No S21 first flight in May 1969. First operator was the German Air Force who used this bird as a VIP Aircraft. In 1987 it was sold to MBB at the end of 1989 was sold to Jet Frighters Int. Inc. in 1996 to Kalitta Flying Services, then to Grand Aire and it was written of in 2000. The other one is No. S33. First flight in 1971. Sold to Brazil in 1973 and in 1994 to Grand Aire. Merry Christmas ! |
