Another awesome looking jet from France. I like the exhaust petals on this model.

Now that Dassault have done the Rafale and F1 I wonder if we will see some Mirages?

I lived in Ecuador from 1987-1989. Every Aug. 10th, their Independence Day, they would fly these and their KFir's over the city all day long. I would take one in the FAE colors any day!

What ever happened to the HM Mirage mould? If it were due to licensing issues with Dassault, sell the tooling to JCW's. They don't give a flying f**k about licensing issues. We need more Mirage 2000's.

Probably.
As they ask for a heavy licensing fee,( so we are told,) I think they would commission some Mirages later but when & what will the quality be ?
Better than Hobby Master ?

If Mirage 2000's I doubt they would be better than HM, Mirage III's, now they could be an improvement on Falcon Models, but then Dassault don't seem inclined to release non-French liveries at present? The use of decals is also a little off putting too.

Still, it would be a change.

I would get really quite excited indeed were someone to release a decent RAAF Mirage III..

I have bit the bullet and bought Falcon for a couple of models unavailable any other way, but just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on any of the Mirage IIIs.

I bought the Dassault Alpha Jet of the French Demonstration team.....

It appears from the picture that they are using the same clear plastic/acrylic stand for this F1.

I will state what some of you may be already aware of as far as the stand itself go....

The stand is very tricky relying on tiny (keyed) nipples to insert into the plane....on the plane side....and on the base side the nipples are 2 different diameters that are inserted into the circular base plate. If you don't get the orientations right...you'll snap them.

Other than that...from the picture provided, the F1 appears to be a decent plane. However more pictures and close ups would be appreciated.

Yeah that nose is what kills it for me and they hadn't done the green camo Mirage, the blue camo was a test camo and not adopted I believe.

minor coincidence i'm going to be in ecuador early next week. going to check out the air force museum in quito as i will have some time to kill while acclimatizing before going up up up. i've seen the few photos that i could find of it online - the F.1 looks interesting and the rest of the museum appears to be valiantly kept up.

Oh wow. Business or vacation? I lived in Guayaquil while dad ran the US Consulate there. Went to Quito once. Getting used to the elevation is pretty rough, specially when you have asthma. Have fun and take pics of the museum to share with us.

Have a brief professional meeting, but most of the time will be doing a bit of mountain climbing and running in an ultra ("chota trail"). however, even though I will be on diamox (chimborazo is 6,200m) and even though most of the peaks are one day affairs, I suspect our acclimatization schedule is insufficient (I've been to 8,000m before so have some idea) and our itinerary may end up getting cut back a bit as it's very aggressive at the moment. Should be fun.

I did go to Riobamba while living there. A neighbor's uncle owned the Volvo Truck dealership in town and invited me to spend a week at their place. You could see Chimborazo from their front door. Beautiful place. Have fun.

Books came in today. Lotta reading to do for a bit. Thought about displaying the books later on in my office at work with those display stands you see at retail booksellers along with a couple 1/72 Mirage models. HM Mirage 2000's would be nice.

That would be a nice setup

I have always had a vision of putting one of those digital picture frames (small in size) displayed with a handful of planes and do a picture slideshow of the actual aircraft on the ground and in the air....perhaps even short vids as well.

I say go for it! That would be cool as heck. There are so many ways to display our collections with other related stuff. Patches, Profile prints, First Flight Covers etc. The list is endless really!
Example of a cover carried on board.

You should definitely do that BB, it's a brilliant idea..

In fact, if you don't mind, I might pinch it

I need to decorate my collection room - I'm getting two more cabs (Detolfs to mod) on the weekend, but once they are done I will turn my mind to "decorating" the room.

A digital slideshow would be neat

Yes...the cover is cool and a good idea as well as your associated books to be displayed.

Just looking at eBay and some digital picture frames.....they are not to expensive. It appears to me that at least for now a 7" diagonal landscape size would do. I may consider it on my next rotation of planes to display. That would be some time after Easter. My Black Bunnies are out right now. I Have yet to display the 20 planes of my demonstration teams from around the world theme.

BB

Tker I don't mind if you or anyone else uses the digital picture frame idea! As 737 says, the ideas a many.

These frames are nice to display military aviation patches! I would prefer a matte black metal frame, for my decor, but they make them for all furniture pairings.

Sure...that works great. I don't know how wide and tall is your shelving ....but if you turn it 90 degrees from the picture shown...you could probably place the frame with the patches on the back wall from behind the planes facing forward.

Yeah, that would look good. It's a commercial display case from a business that went belly up. Looks just like this.

That certainly is a good find....does it have lighting?

I would have to build an addition to my house for cases such as that.....

I forget what thread it was mentioned in....but be careful not to overload glass shelves....lest they come crashing down.

You would not want that for your Mirage and others

No lighting. I think it was available from the manu as an option. Yes glass shelves, and I do remember the thread. Horrible! My collection is mostly 1/72 Su-27's and 30's. Heavy suckers.

Lighting a mostly glass cab...can be difficult but doable....with some creative mounting and some electrical know how you can...........use search words in eBay...."rigid led light strip".....the key here is rigid....not flexible. You'll find a variety of led strip lighting mounted to a rigid metal extrusion bar, low profile small thickness and at different lengths.

That would have been my collection thread - where I posted the pictures of the unloaded shelf that exploded in my hand while I was fitting it into the cab

I'm just lucky the flawed glass showed itself flawed at that point, not when loaded with ten-twelve of my favourite models!!

Any glass will only bear so much weight though, especially the longer pieces.
