Default My DAC collection plan

As someone who owns 500+ AFV models, I learnt the lesson not to gather too many camo variants no matter how much you like them. It is nice to have every painting scheme but eventually they just end up in the boxes.

When come to 1/72 DAC, I have carefully selected four collection themes. I have read extensively the posts on this forum, and have since greatly benefited from the fellow collectors who generously contributed.

Following their reviews/recommendations I made a couple of purchases to fulfill my collection themes. Regrettably I won't be able to see many of them until early next year (I am in Canada and those models stay with a number of friends of mine around the world due to shipping convenience).

Theme 1: Flankers
SU-27UB (witty & Gaincorp)
SU-30 (witty)
J-11(SU-33) (Terbo)
SU-35 (Zhuhai Aviation Show Factory)
SU-47 (I have one built from Hobbyboss kit)
Plan to get a SU-34 from Terbo if I cannot put my hands on a Gaincorp.

Theme 2: MIG: Birth to Death
MIG 3 (IXO). The first MIG in wars.
MIG 15 (Easy model). The most successful Mig in my opinion due to its performance if Korean War. HM is expensive.
MIG 31 (already located someone to build for me from a Zvezda kit). For no reason. I just love this model. Altaya is expensive and the quality is unacceptable.
MIG1.44.(already located another builder with Hobbyboss kit). The last jet fighter to fly from MIG.

I may change my mind and fill in the gaps by adding MIG19/21/23 etc. Who knows.

To be continued.

Welcome Martinkhuu

+500 AFV's.... That's impressive

I had this golden rule, I would only buy a different camo scheme IF it was on a different variant of AFV so I kept AFV's to just under 100

That said, there's always going to be particular aircraft you like and will no doubt buy more of and others you can get the best one out there and be happy with

I love the Mig 31. Thinking about building one from ICM new tool kit as it gets better review than the Zevzada kit.

Good to know that. I once passed a prebuilt Mig-31 made from ICM. It was lousy.

I was very silly to aiming at collecting all Dragon Amor /72 King Tigers, and all Hobby Master 1/48 King Tigers. But in retrospect, the "silliness" got me all the models. A bit regretful for the money spent but not too much.

Almost did the same with StuG's, Tiger I's, halftracks, Pv IV's and T-34's but lucky I just got the best 5 of each and very happy with that

I only bought the Sherman & Tiger 1 in 1/72 and quickly abandoned collecting amours in that scale after seeing how small they were. I am now collecting AFVs in 1/30 scale (at a very slow pace) and never look back.

Now you have a chance to get a great return on your investment. Those are very rare now and getting big $$$ on the secondary market. Unless, of course, you're like me, and can't part with armor models easily.

I like your focus on themes. If you can maintain it, you will do well. Do not be tempted by the release posters. They look so innocent when pre-ordering, but will clobber you when you have to find space to keep all the boxes and display the models.

Ah, the sweet goodness of the DA Sd.Kfz. 251s = modeling bliss.

More for me. Small is good, when display space is at a premium. I am dabbling with some 1/35 armor, but I keep it under strict supervision.

The Mig-23s will probably be the death of my bank account after all these new US Navy releases by HM. I think I got over the Phantom Phever, but it could resurface at any moment.

And the USN theme (wipes forehead) these darn Vikings, prowlers, tomcats and super bugs....

DITTO the spooks, just when I think I'm ok with just two USN spooks, out somes Showtime 112 and I suddenly develop a need for a JR....

Wish I had done that in retrospect. As a Newb, I went down the 1/32 FOV German Tank line and kind of regret it that I did now space, limited selection and quality being the key issues.

If someone else where to restart a WWII German Tank line in 1/32 I might give it another go, but I have most of the models now so I think its going to stop there.

Get my seventh Flanker today.
Witty: two SU-30s, one SU-27UB, and one SU-27
Gaincorp: one SU-27UBK
Teerbo: one SU-33/J-15,
plus a no-name SU-35.
I am done with flankers for the time being. Waiting for Calibre's new SU-24.

Could you give your thoughts about the Su-33 ? Is this in Chinese airforce scheme ? I would love to have one for my flanker collection.

Nice score with those witty flankers, thought there all gone ?

You say no more now but wait till JCW start churning out the flankers monthly

Awesome news Calibre aren't just going to do the usual suspects, gets rather boring when you have too many manu's doing the same thing, especially when all have major faults. Hoping they don't get too ambitious with the Su-24 and keep it simple but detailed, no need for gimmicks that spoil the model

Update.

Decide to have both SU-34 and SU-35 built from model kits. SU-34 is using Tamiya's kit which has limited choice of decals. SU-35 is a prebuilt and is on its way.

Looking forward to see the pics of these Flankers.
I built the Su47 and have been thinking about doing either Su35 or Mig 31 next.

The more I look at it the more I like it. He did very nice painting on the engines.
It's always tricky to ship fragile models but a tube of crazy glue can fix everything .

Model biliilders have many tricks to turn plastic into metal, some of which are easy to lean by diecast model collectors. Thanks for offering your Gaincorp Fullback. However I have commissioned a builder to make one From a Tamiya kit.

The Tamiya kit will be much better in detail than diecast one.

Just pack your fragile plastic model into box full of polystyrene foam beads. Works like a miracle - all those landing gears, long tiny antennas, pitot tubes - everything will come untouched. Awesomely bulletproof packing.

Recently add one VX-9 bunny. Happened to be the last F-14D ever made.
Hobbyboss/trumpeter kit, photo-eched parts used. The decals are so rare to find. Microscale 72847 happens to be wrong. USed VF Decals 72002 instead.

Enjoy!

Update.
In the past four months, I have collected 50 1/72 model military airplanes.

I have 12 flankers, From SU-27 to SU-47, including all the current brands and popular model kits. I guess I am done with flankers.

I have 13 Tigermeet planes. I intend to collect multiple brands for the same models. Almost done with this theme. I may consider adding one or two in future as new models are released from time to time.

I have seven Golden Dragons Hornets (two were built from Hasegawa kits). I am a big fan of VF192 Hornets and pretty much every available GD Hornet is in my collection.

I have four chippy ho models, including a 1995 one built from the
Hasegawa kit. There are one Dragon Wing Hornet and one 2016 Academy kit out there but my interest in them fades as they don't possess any uniqueness.

I have five VX-4/9 planes: three Tomcats (one built from HobbyBoss Kit) and two Phantoms.

The rest of my fleet goes to various Canada, Russian and Chinese jet fighters.

My next plan is to get someone build 4-5 MIG-31s. I am waiting for the new kit from HobbyBoss, which was said to be released by the end of this year. I already bought a large sheet of decals from Begemot, and intend to bring the following foxhounds to my place.
1. Blue Fox
2. Tambov Wolf
3. Killer Whale
4. Polar Bear
