Default 1/200 Bomber Collection

Well, slowly my collection of 1/200 scale bombers is moving forward. After almost 2 years, the Small World B-36 finally got here. Still waiting on the B-47, DH-10 and a few others but it's starting to come together.

Thanks for looking and enjoy. Matt

Hi All - thank you for the compliments. Evil, the b-70 is the Dragon model. The B-36 is from Small World - it costs a fortune and probably isn't worth the money even if you're willing to wait 2 years (that is what it took) but I really wanted it - kind of the final evolution of prop driven bomber design. Thanks guys. Matt

Mattgill thanks for the fast and informative reply.I have seen the B-36 in 1/100 and some obscure scales 1/125...1/444...made in wood so I will have to make a decision....Thanks again

I know about Small World. Costs a fortune is an accurate description of their price The problem is the other manufacturers not doing the planes we want. I'm sure a maker like Hogan could come up with an affordable B-36. Hopefully that will change as 1:200 military becomes more popular.

Matt, you are a man after my own heart! I am going to be starting a B36 soon, same casting as you have but I prefer to make them myself, cheaper and much faster I recently finished a TU22, KC135 and an IL18 that I need to post pictures of! Here's an interesting one for you though from my own collection Also, is that gap on the left frame for a B45 tornado?

Hey Istari - you better be careful. I'd go to great lengths to get my hands on that B-47 my friend. I continue to mess with which planes go into the various collections based on what I can find and what seems most interesting within the boundaries of the collection themes.

Right now, I want the DH-10 (WWI) which is underway at Helmut and am still looking for a Martin B-10 - something I have yet to find anywhere. The B-26 will probably be a Helmut unless Herpa or others decide to do it and then that leaves the B-47 (hmmmm....). I eventually want to replace the B1-B and B-29 with more accurate models but these will do until something else comes along from the majors since the only time I drop Small World money is if I can't find them anywhere else.

For those that are trying to make sense of how these are displayed as shown, they normally go up on the wall in shadow boxes - I just had them out mounting the B-36 so I took the entire bomber collection together so kind of show the evolution from the original bi-plane to the B-2.

Many thanks everyone. Matt

That is a very neat and classy display! How do you mount the models?

Hey Bravo. Mounting depends on size and weight. Most of the small ones are drilled with a very tiny hole in the bottom of the AC and a rigid metal wire glued which in turn sticks into the foam backing and core (little dab of elmers holds it). The larger/heavier models require that a hole be drilled and tapped in the bottom of the AC and then the model is either mounted via a small bolt cut to length or I attach wire to the bolt and attach via that.

I don't trade these or change them out nor are they removed from the wall except to add new models so they are all semi-permanently mounted. I really sweated drilling into the B-36 but low and behold, it was already drilled and trapped so it was easy. Thanks. Matt
