Default Corgi AA35312 B-25B Mitchell "The Ruptured Duck" Doolittle Raid 1942

Corgi AA35312
North American B-25B Mitchell 40-2261, 'The Ruptured Duck’
USAAC, Doolittle Raid, 1942
1/72 Scale

April 2013 Release

Dan

One of the sixteen North American B-25 Mitchell medium bombers that took part in the famous Doolittle Raid of 1942, 'The Ruptured Duck,' along with Doolittle's own aircraft is one of the best known of the aircraft that took part. Conceived as a way to boost the morale of a nation still reeling from the attack on Pearl Harbour, the Doolittle Raid consisted of the USAAF flying a number of B-25 Medium bombers off an aircraft carrier close to Japan, bombing Tokyo and then flying on to land in China. While material damage would be slight, the effect on morale back in America, and detrimentally in Japan, would be huge.

'The Ruptured Duck' got its name from scraping its rear fuselage on the runway during training. After bombing Tokyo the aircraft flew on to China where it crashed into the sea near Shangchow. All of the crew survived, though the pilot Lt. Ted Lawson lost a leg in the ditching.

Looks good, definitely a model I'd add. Hopefully Corgi will release more B-25 and B-17s.

Interesting subject, but I was hoping for a later version. None of the Doolittle Raiders was armed, all of the guns were fake or missing completely.

I agree, but this will be nice for those who don't have the first Doolittle release. At least there is an American release. This gives me a little hope for some more to come.

Corgi seems to be playing it safe with releases that will definately sell. I wonder if the upcoming 'Getting Younger Everyday' Lanc will be in the discount bins as soon as it comes out. I imagine several people will be cancelling that pre-order for the just announced 'Johnny Walker' that finished off the Tirpitz. Bad marketing pooch, bad.

The top turret was real and the bombadier had his .30 cal in the nose machine gun. The bottom turrets were removed early on prior to the arrival on the Hornet. The tail guns were removed on the Hornet and replaced with broomsticks painted black to save on weight.

For those who don't have the first Tokyo Raider, the pictures, above, if that is what we are getting, indicate some improvements. First, and most important, this model has deicing boots, which were lacking on the first one. Second, the navigator's upper window was painted an unrealistic light blue on the first Raider model; this one looks a lot better.

Looks really nice... I'd love to add this one to my collection... Suppose these will still be available for pre-order when early 2013 comes around?

Some may. I think a few may sell out before then, but it depends on the production run, which I think may be lower than previous releases... just a hunch. I'm going to pre-order the Erich Hartmann Bf-109 for sure when I get home.

Why wait to pre-order?

There are other sites with these available, but not sure about their pre-order discounts.

Pete's Collectibles had Ruptured Duck on Pre order for $95.

I let the Flying Mule know and they have revised their Pre Order price to $89.99.
