Re: Tem's Collection
Welcome Tem. TFP
You are serious about your B-17s. That's a great selection in so short a time. A nice cross section of American military air power with a Fw-190 thrown in. Watch out for those Luftwaffe releases... they are addictive as well.
What's with the 3 F-8 Shamrocks? You must really enjoy that model. I only have 2 myself.
Is that a North Carolina class battleship in there? Very nice.
You don't kid around with the Corsairs either. Very nice selection you have there. I like your cabinet and wall colors... they really make your models stand out well. Very nicely displayed.
Great first post. I hope you jump in and join our conversations now that you've broken the ice... and fell in.

Re: Tem's Collection
The Battleship is the Missouri. The Shamrocks I got a great deal on the Flying Mule for 24.99 each back in march 2010. Corsairs I truly enjoy, that stems from Baa Baa Black Sheep with Robert Conrad when I was a kid. Nothing would make me happier than to fly in one. The wall colors the wife picks out, very peaceful.

Re: Tem's Collection
This is a wonderful collection, thank you for sharing. I'm super-jealous of that "Black 310" Mitchell, I lost out on ebay for one this week.
Having all those B-17s is great, I don't even have one yet and it's going to be uphill getting some with availability and pricing being as they are.

Re: Tem's Collection
The pricing has gone thru the roof on Ebay and at the retailers, but there is always a chance. I picked up the Corgi B24 Sky Witch for $110.75 USD with shipping this month.
The two that I have written off thou are Nine O Nine and Sentimental Journey, they are just coveted by almost anyone who collects B17's so the price is just crazy.

Awesome collection Temarek. Finally, we've got you out and about.
Were you in the Corps or just a fan of the '46?

yep. I was a 6152 Hydraulics Mechanic on the 46 at Kanoehe Bay back in the late 80's early 90's.
yeah it was Behind Enemy Lines, good eyes. I really like the Hornet scene and the end when they show the Hueys.

Re: Tem's Collection
Great additions Tem.
I have all those and love them. You ( and I ) absolutely need a Witty F-14 stand for the Death Angels. Then you can mount the centerline gun while in flight. I have mine displayed with gears down at the moment, but would love to get it airborne.
The 2 marine birds are great for breaking up the standard gray white scheme of the Navy birds of the era. Snoopy is one of my favorites, but it didn't seem to get much love in the sales department. I like a slimmed down Phantom mixed in with the fully loaded ones, plus it has the great SEA camo.

Very nice! I don't think these models will live up to the real thing with out going back into the Corps, but they sure look real to me.
Happy collecting, and keep those pictures coming!

Re: Tem's Collection
I really like that Spanish Phantom. The insignia looks great with that camo pattern. I've been watching that one for a while, especially at the discounted prices, but space is becoming a serious issue now.
The P-47s are simply awesome. A nice variety you have there, and varied liveries. BAB is one of my favorites... very colorful and a BMF too.
How do you like the Dragon Hornets? I think they are very good quality compared with the prices of the HM releases. I hate the fiddly pieces, and the stands are pure junk IMO. I have some secret ingredients on the way to make a custom stand for my Dragon F-15s and F-18s. I'll post some pics if I ever actually complete one.
That collection is growing very rapidly. It's nice to see the different variety of subjects.

Re: Tem's Collection
Thank you. I think depending on the livery Dragon is best bet and best value. HM is most detailed and accurate from what I see in reviews and offer most payload options, but price is a tad high. I like my witty 18 and price is good but their options on display are very limited.
I would buy dragon first, then HM, then Witty. When i get home from on monday I'll do a side by by side of the three.

Re: Tem's Collection
Nice. How do you like the X Plus compared with the HM Phantoms? I've got the
F-4EJ KAI JASDF 85Q BLACK PANTHERS 37-8312 2008 on the way. Got it from team-x2 on eBay for $82. I'm excited to start a modern meatball collection.

Re: Tem's Collection
I like the X-Plus immensely more, but the retail price is just out of my league. I bought this one on sale, which put it close to the HM price.

Re: Tem's Collection
Nice addition. I received mine today as well via Royal Air Mail. Richard at Cornwall Models was very polite and easy to work with. MBII seems to be quite popular and hard to find in the US.
This is my 4th Thud and by far the best quality. My others seem to have poor quality landing gear that doesn't mount well. The Op Look Alike version required glue... and lots of it. The wheels on most are at crazy angles as well. I'll post some pics when my camera battery recharges.
Your collection seems to be growing at a brisk pace. Very nice choices you've made.

Re: Tem's Collection
Yup. I like the Dragon and Witty Super Bugs, but I absolutely hate the fiddley bits. The Dragon's practice missiles are a disappointment as well. They are a good value compared to others, especially all the Dragon Hornets popping up on eBay recently.
I like the rearrangement. All those bugs together look menacing.

Re: Tem's Collection
I do like them, pretty tough looking airframe. I added them a tad quicker than I would have liked, but if you don't pull the trigger, you can lose any chance at adding them later. These models disappear from the retailers too quickly.

Re: Tem's Collection
Very nice job with the pics of the jets and Dragon birds. The F-18 looks awesome. I just posted my own grainy pics of it. The Witty is very sharp and the color and focus is great.
I especially like the last pics of the Fw-190. Taken outside?

It was inside. I had a bright light on the side and used the dep setting. I wish I could do that again, but I got lucky. I do not understand lighting for the life of me.

Re: Tem's Collection
You are getting very good. Your one pic of the Centennial Hornet made all mine look like crap in that other thread. The third pic of Terrible Tyke, most of your Growler, and the Last AV F-16 and Fw-190 pics really look great. The others are very good, but those are the ones that stood out to me.
I have an 8mp point and shoot, but I think you've shown that lighting is the key. I've known this, but just have to figure something out that works for me.
What kind of bright light did you use? Incandescent or fluorescent? Wattage? Distance? Did you hold your tounge on the left side of your mouth or the right?

Re: Tem's Collection
The light was standard Incandescent light bulb, unk wattage, but probably 100+. Light Distance was about 5 feet above and 2 feet to the right.
Photo was taken about 5 to 8 inches from subject matter.
Camera - 40D
Exposure -30s(30/1)
Aperture f/29
ISO - 200
Focal Length - 55(88 in 35)
everything else was auto.
I shoot AV mostly, but lighting always ruins it.
and I keep the tongue in, as the wife says I do a pucker

Re: Tem's Collection
Great photos !!! You've got the lighting and focus perfect IMO. I think the solid base like you have the A-1 on works best... maybe add a pic of a skyline with some trees in the distance or some other plain backdrop, just to experiment. The curtain draws focus away from the models IMO, because of the pattern, which may be me being too picky. The wood shelves work very well in your other photos, but I like the lighter color board in the recent pics as a base.
Great selection of planes as well. I just put my Tornado on the shelf with an F-15 and an Su-27. They make a great trio.

Re: Tem's Collection
Thanks. I have to agree on the curtain, it is distracting. I am hoping a local company Traverse Dioramics can make some backgrounds on canvas, I am thinking the photos will turn out better than if just on regular photo paper or cardboard. I am just trying to figure out the backdrop scene I want. I lost access to the wood shelves that I had used, the wife put up her Department 56 houses.

Wal-Mart and UPS can print photos on canvas, but it isn't cheap. There are certainly others... maybe Photobucket or another online photo service.

Re: Tem's Collection
Nice additions. I'm glad you could help out andrer.
You make that F-14 look very tempting, but I have to know my limits, and I've already got the CW Wolfpack on pre-order.
One of your A-6s has a refueling probe malfunction!!! You don't want that jet fuel leaking onto the avionics. Seriously though, that is one great A-6E. I love the flat low-vis scheme. I wish they would make a Desert Storm A-7 in low-vis to compliment it. The Ravens release looks great, but again, I'm waiting on a VA-82 Marauders at an affordable price. I just got outbid by a dollar on eBay again.

lol, thank you. Fueling issue averted before catastrophic failure. The Marauder is a very nice Livery that I am also looking to add. I do like the A-7's and would love to add the Korat also but that bidding is just crazy. Actually I think I just like aircraft because I seem to say that a lot.
