Re: My Collection
Thanks mar_ji. The hardest part is deciding what goes where. I've tried to keep each shelf to a theme, but found it almost impossible.
It also shows that I have a lot of Navy F-4s and need to diversify. I need some Marine and a few Air Force planes to balance it out.
I love the Phantoms, but after displaying them, the Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series HA3106 Convair F-102A Delta Dagger Diecast Model USAF 32nd FIS, Soesterberg AFB, Netherlands, February 1963 is my favorite. I didn't like the looks of it online, but after seeing it in person, it's great. I'm going to try to get at least one of each of the Century Series fighters.
I think I also want to concentrate on different liveries of the same aircraft... maybe I can start with HM's F-16, so I can get them all.
The F-18s are so tempting, but there are so many of them.
I tried new settings with my camera, but as you can see, it failed. The pics look terrible compared to many of the posters here. I'll keep experimenting, but I think lighting is the key.

Re: My Collection
Dang Skinner- that collection of yours is growing awfully fast.
That display is quite nice too. Although it would be a pain in the *** to dust off all the models, I think it would look nicer without glass doors.
Just my 2 uneducated cents
Thanks for sharing, I think i'll go grab my camera now, too :P
P.S. If there are like 5 posts by me- it isn't my fault, my PS3 was acting up again. I swear!

Which plane is this? Sorry for my ignorance. Oh, I see the F-102. It was on sale at The Flying Mule. Awesome model.
http://www.flyingmule.com/products/HM-HA3106
Thanks everyone. Seeing everyone's collection inspires me to buy models I don't think I would normally consider. I see how people group them in different schemes and it gives me ideas.
My collection has grown much faster than I had anticipated, mostly due to me trying to get certain models before they were no longer available. Now I'm mostly watching the pre-orders which is a financial relief. I'm still hunting a Steve Richie F-4 at about $150. It seems there's always one extra bidder on eBay whenever I bid on something. I also love the Mirage 2000, but the current liveries are not my taste. The Canadian Voodoo is on my list as well. Beautiful bird.
I got the shelves from Target online with free shipping. I think I would have like a lighter finish, but this is what matches the tv stand... great quality for the money. Many come with shelves that will sag, but these are thicker and the front trim helps keep them strait.
Target.com : Furniture, Baby, Electronics, Toys,...: Target
I have some maple shelves from Staples as well. The individual shelves are about an inch thick (no sag with books), but the price is a bit higher and they are shorter. I highly recommend those as well, but the rear panel cardboard looks fake. The Target ones are cardboard too, but more realisitic.
Hopefully the UPS guy will come today with some more models. It takes too long to get here, all the way from California.

Re: My Collection
More additions...
If the evilbayers are going to keep outbidding me on the earlier Intruders, I'll just get what is available and not worry about it anymore:
I've added an F-101 Voodoo and F-105 Thunderchief to help my Century Series along. I'm just waiting for the City of Jacksonville F-106 to complete the lot. They are getting really crowded, so I'll have to find a better way to display them.
Are there any threads that can show me how others have their CS fighters displayed?

Re: My Collection
Skinner67, you have a great modern military aircraft collection.
Again... a lot of F-4s I still have only one F-4 thats Robin Olds... Because I don't know which one add to my collection.
Are you planning to get more F-14?

Re: My Collection
Thanks Peter9R. I'll get as many F-4s as I can, except the Turkish one. The Turks are great fighters and allies, but that is one ugly bird.
I don't plan on any more F-14s even though it's one of my favorite aircraft. They're just too expensive, and the pallet issue kills it for me. Fast Eagles 102 and 107 are candidates, but my collection has outgrown my income.
Mar_ji, I like all the Voodoos so far. I think HM has selected well. Is there a particular bird you'd like to see? I'll have to look through the "Which F-101 Would You Like to See Next" threads again. I live near Jax Florida, so the upcoming F-106 is on my list, as I've wanted a bicentennial plane.

The same story with me Anyway, if you're decide to get one, i highly recommend you the Pukin Dogs. It still costs ok... but if you're really like it, sure.
I'm hunting now for AJ203, AJ207 and Grim Reapers. Hope i'll get them...

Re: My Collection
I've got my Fast Eagle F-14s displayed. Got them on eBay for great price from team-x2. They'll probably be my last CW purchases, unless I run across some old A-7s or the infamous F-14s in PD JR or GR liveries at a decent price, or if CW releases something new...
These F-14s are much better quality than the Tomcatters release. They look great together. Very menacing. I did use the hair dryer to fix the pallet-fuselage gap. It didn't work with my Felix.

Re: My Collection
i guess most diecast collectors that love F-14 will be anxious to have JR....but its nowhere to be found in webshops..-perhaps on ebay but youve got to pay an exorbitant price if ever someone finds one...paying twice perhaps than what you get for one...my opinion....

Re: My Collection
Sweet! Added my missing model. Great service from Eric at The Flying Mule. He sent a return UPS label, and then shipped me a replacement defect-free Wabbit.
Thanks Dani. I don't even mind dusting them. I love the model real estate available on them. So much so, I have a John McCain A-4E on the way. ~ US $40 on eBay.

Nice to finally have one.
Love the JDAMs. Oops. The landing gear is coming open. It must be about to land...
I didn't notice the front canopy gap until I took the pictures. I don't see it without the flash, so it's ok with me.

Thank you. I was very fortunate. Aradrom is having a sale, and I was able to be first in line. He still has some great stuff left, but it's on eBay now.

Re: My Collection
It's surprising me too. I intended to stop to let my wallet rest, then up pops something that I couldn't find, like the Dutch F-16. In order to justify the shipping, I had to buy the Witty F-16 from the same eBay seller.
I also found a HM HA1911 VMFA 333 Fighting Shamrocks F-4J. I love the Phantoms, and that one will look great with CW's F-8.
I have the "Getting Younger Everyday" Corgi Lanc on pre-order, but simply don't want to pay premium for the desireable B-17s or B25s, so I'll just wait until something new is released. I'm really hoping for a BMF B-17 like the one recently discussed here on DAC (can't remember the name).
I don't like the mold lines on the Corgi B-24s. It's not one of my favorite planes anyway. An He111, Ju87, and Ju88 are all on my radar, but not yet within range. A Mosquito would be nice, but again, not many out there.
I may get an A-26 when they go on sale.

Re: My Collection
Nice collection man. Those cabinets are killer, but you know how it goes: the more space you have, the more planes you'll buy to fill it. I wouldn't mind facing that problem though

Re: My Collection
That's a very precise observation Astronut. Thanks for the kind words. To support your theory I present exhibit 1: Recent ebay purchases from last month that just made it out of their boxes and onto the shelves.
I had been searching for a HM F-4 Shamrocks to compliment the CW F-8 Crusader. I finally ran across one on ebay. The seller had 8-10 other models that I liked at very reasonable prices and offered to combine shipping. I bid on 8 and was suprised to win them at the great price of US $288. The F-4 was bundled with a CW F-8, so I ended up with a duplicate Shamrock, but I don't mind because it's a beautiful model.
He currently has many others for sale now. I've bid on a couple, but can't afford many more. He is one of the friendliest ebay sellers that I've run across, so I encourage you to check out his current offerings: noclevermoniker1969 | eBay
The Shamrock looks great with the CW Crusader:
I've also been reading a lot on another forum about the HM F-4 "MiG Killer" and have to agree that the Euro1 camo is a great compliment to my other Phantoms:
Then there is this fine couple of Marine F-4 Phantoms. I wasn't impressed by the retailer or HMC pictures, but seeing them in person has changed my mind, so I've decided to keep them. I love that the Death Angels offering comes with the gun pod.
I've never seen a Dragon F-18E/F so I couldn't pass up the Tomcatters addition. I am extremely happy with it. Overall great quality, and I'll be hoping to get some more. The only issue is the lack of additional armament. It comes with two AMRAAMs, but that's it.
I got the Witty F-16 because I like the livery, and was curious about the quality of the early WW F-16s. I am not impressed with the quality and the fixed gear, but it does look nice from a distance, and was only ~ $15.
My last new edition is a Dragon F-6F. Very good quality and an excellent purchase. I like it so much, I have it displayed at work. Please excuse the poor quality photo... I took it with my phone. I'll be watching for more Dragon offerings before they become too uncommon.

gobert's first photo in this thread: http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/...-3-months.html was the inspiration for rearranging the display of my Black Aces F-14s from CW. I like them much better with gear up. Thanks gobert.

The 1/72 armor is awesome. Great size... you can stick them anywhere, or get affordable wall-mount cases that take up very little room. I've got my eye on a Sherman V along with the jeep and HUMVEE. That Pershing of yours looks sweet. I'll be getting one of those. I hope they release more Cold War era armor. I love the Pattons, BMPs, and T-62s. I'll be selling my un-built plastic kits soon to fund anything new.
The cat has chewed off the pitot of my F-111, so I'll have to figure out a way to put glass doors on the shelves. Glass is stupidly expensive now. What happened? Do they make it with oil instead of sand now?

Awesome collection you have there, niceley displayed!!! It has been growing realy rapidly last few weeks, do you have a secret money tree somewhere?
That orange F16 is indeed very nice, great that you could find one!
Those CW Intruders are very cool to, just bought 2 of them a week ago.
The Eagles and the Green knights one, did you noticed that on the green knights Intruder the name of the pilot is the same on both sides?
