Default Thoughts on Gemini Jets?

I've had some hit and miss luck with them. Last year I bought a US Airways Express CRJ-700 and the second I took it out of the box an engine and part of the tail came off. I bought the six pack of jet bridges and the first pack was ok and the second pack was a lot better. I bought the DL A319 and DL 717 and was very happy with the product. Before that in 2005 I bought a DL MD-88 1:200 scale and with in a year the colors faded, and the rubber from the tires started to fall apart. And my most recent experience was with the DL-MD-88 1:400 and the wings being bent down. I Understand, nothing is always going to be perfect, but what you see online and what you get seem to be a bit different.I Don't mind paying a premium, but I expect quality in return. I really liked Herpa but they seem to not be producing as much as they used to.

Geoff,

I've been collecting for around 10 years now and feel that the quality of Gemini Jets has definitely got worse in the last couple of years. The smaller offerings like CRJs and Q400s seem to be of a poorer construction than larger aircraft to me. Their early products now seem much more solidly built.
Lately I have swung more to Phoenix, although some on here will tell you that they too have their problems. My recent purchase of a Virgin Atlantic 787-9 has a L/H engine that points slightly upward, which is most annoying, but generally I feel they are better.
Herpa are always solidly built, but sometimes lacking in detail I feel and of course, limited in the scope of what they produce.

The trouble is, I still get excited when the postman delivers!

I couldn't agree with you more! About 9-10 years ago I bought a Delta 767-300 and its still in great condition. I also bought a Delta DC-9 30 and its in good condition. I had to do a minor repair on the nose gear because it broke. However, that was my fault, I accidentally knocked it off the shelf. I've noticed lately they still look good but the construction is poor. I Love Herpa and just about if not all of my Herpa's are well over 10 years old and still in good shape. However, the selection they offer is not that good. It seem like they used to have a good selection.

However, I also still get excited when the postman comes! Unfortunately, more often than not it leads to disappointment. I decided to give the Gemini Jets Delta MD-88 1:400 scale another shot and I bought the American Eagle CR7 1:400 scale. I Hope I have better luck, but not expecting it.

I really like geminijets , i have all DC-9s produced by them and some others too.
To me the are one of the best out there at lower prices than for instance inflight.
Really nicely detailed also .

Last week I re-ordered the Delta MD-88 1:400 scale and was pleased with it. The wings are bent but its really hard to notice, so I was happy.

I also, got the American Eagle CRJ-700 and was happy with it. Going to try my luck with a Delta 757-200 1:400.

Out of all the manufacturers gemini its the best but I noticed that the quality has decreased within the last 3 years specially for example the landing gear

My biggest problem with the newer Gemini models (in both 1:200 and 1:400 scale) is the landing gear. More often then not the landing gear is poorly constructed and usually bent.

I have had some issues (1:400 only) with the painting of the models. I have noticed on a few Delta models I wanted to buy that the flight deck windows were painted on crooked.

In my personal opinion Gemini was at there best around 2010 but has been steadily declining over the last five years.

Wink Re: Thoughts on Gemini Jets?

Normally, my preference has been for Gemini too, specifically for the level of detail that is found on many of their models. I should mention now that I only collect 1:200.

That said, they have had their 'issues' periodically. I myself have received models with bent landing gear struts, bent aerials, asymmetrical engine positions, and bent wheel axles. Fortunately, for me, being a long-time modeller, I can often fix most of those bits. But when it comes to screwy or incomplete tampo printing, the model goes back. Grrr*#@*!!!!!!!

Recently, I too have noticed Gemini being afflicted with an increasing share of gaffs, and I honestly wish they'd smarten up their act. As it sits for the time being, I'm on the sidelines until I see an improvement trend.

It should be noted that ALL manufacturers have spates of caulk-ups from time to time. The better ones recover.

I have also cutback on my Gemini purchases for the time being. I have been collecting die cast models for about 17 years now. When I see an improvement again I'll start to buy.

With that said it's not just Gemini that has had quality issues in my opinion. Hopefully things get better sooner rather then later.

I am also pretty happy with Gemini and JC Wings. Yes, I occasionally will have a loose piece or something, but no major defects. Any loose items have always been in the box so nothing has been missing.

Nothing odd about you nor your experience. Truth is that a customer can get 100 models that are just dandy and we will never hear about it here. But once they get that 2nd model that isn't up to a certain level of expectations (and people do have different levels...believe me) then that is when we hear about it here. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just the way that it is.

Ask anybody that has seen well over 50,000 Gemini Jets (including myself) and we could tell you every little nitpick that has ever been seen. But the absolute truth is that the level of quality with Gemini Jets for the past year is the highest that it has ever been.

Need to agree with Nick on this one. I can't remember one Gemini,200 or 400,that had obvious problems this year. I remember years ago, when they released the TWA B727's. One I looked at said "Trans" on one side. Tampo missed a whole word and that was released.

Would second this. I've been nothing but pleased with my Gemini200s. Some people will never be satisfied. Go buy a Boeing if you want realism to the Nth degree.

That is reassuring. Gemini has always been my first choice for a variety of subjects throughout my 1:200 journey. Truth be told, I'm also waiting for a couple of items to eventually get around to being done.

I'm very casually collectin'.

The 1/400 707-320C is anything but subtle, and in 1/400, avoid the 747 classics (including the SP) too. The flash at the juncture of the engine pylons to wing is atrocious and is so 20 years ago. The 747-800s are great, but the old 747 mould needs help or replacement. Later, Doug

Just received my aeroflot A332 today and I'm very very disappointed. The tail portion of the job is just wrong. The red line along the fuselage doesn't match up perfectly with the tail...and it has been redone and you can still clearly see the old one.

..... I have a GJ 1/250 scale 737. That was produced around ten years ago. Nice-looking model. Well nice-looking until I turn the model around and there is no printing on the other side. Couldn't return it to the "fly-by-night" feeBay seller. QA issues are not new to GeminiJets (or any other manufacturer).

..... By the way, anyone out there that has the talent to "fix" this model with decals though I know 1/250 is an odd scale (which is probably why GJ dropped that line)?

I love Gemini Jets 1/400. Sure there is the occasional issues, (such as my SWA 737-800), but overall they are the best.

Would you consider doing a BA 777 200 ER with RR engines. G-YMMG F12 J48 W32 Y127 catagory it would be an interesting plane to do. it would complement the BA 777 300 ER. love it btw.

Hi there.. you had me checking my Aeroflot A330 - it seems ok to my eyes - phew. The majority of my collection is Gemini - including some B707's..eek; detail may not be a patch on the Av400 or Aeroclassics B707's but the paint job is fine.
I am quite content with my Gemini aeroplanes and would have little reservation about future buys. I only wish they'd move on from their wing cradle design. The visible seam can be a deal-breaker for me.

I've had one Gemini come this year with one of its engines off. The weird thing about it is I've read several times of others saying there's did also. It was my 747-8 lufthansa retro, one of my favorite purchases ever. I've only been collecting for 6 months and being I love the 747 it's the majority of my collection. Add that in with me liking United States older liverys and this has lead me to quite a few dragon wings. Reason I bring them up is I've never had a single loose wing or engine. I just wish their landing gear was more detailed otherwise I love them. Their wings are thin crisp and detailed like everyone seems to like but it seems everyone dislikes the plastic. I almost prefer it. Big bird is known for the 747s and have nice thin awesome wings that everyone loves. Well the plastic wings are the same appearance wise. Overall quality with Gemini seems decent to me but I do agree that their landing gear arrives all bent up. That's the first thing I do with a new Gemini is inspect and repair the landing gear. I wish the manufacturers would leave the gear for us to install.

Can't say I've had a problem with GJ's undercarriage.. and appearance-wise it is better than DW. I have a lot of DW 747's and DC-10 / MD11's. The thin wings do look good.

I bought 3 GJ's in 2016 and have no complaints; Air China & Lufthansa retro B747-8 and the Icelandair 757.

So far have 1 GJ in 2017, the Trump 757, and will be getting the Arkia 757-300 soon as well.

I have 4 Gemini 200s. The only one with issues was a 757 which had a loose engine, loose, backwards slanted front nose gear, and a little bit of the leading edge of the vertical stablizer chipping away. The others are good (727-200, A-321 and A-340-300)
Only other problem is the stand for the narrowbodies is terrible and can't support the weight, especially the 727 which is very heavy.
