Trying to find out info on this plane.

I have a EL AL Airlines ashtray that was given to me by a neighbor when I was 7 years old. I talked to someone on line that told me that it was made around 1957 by an unknown company in Israel. Any info that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt, that the aircraft depicted is supposed to be a Bristol Britannia 313 Series. The main identifying feature is the engines with subtle turbo-jet exhaust pipes indicated.

In 1955 El Al had ordered 3 of these Britannias, only to increase that to 4 by 1957. El Al did engage in an enormous amount of publicity to promote their new aircraft/routes, and this sort of item was typical -- probably primarily used in airport offices, waiting areas, and reservation counters as well as at travel agent offices.

As far as the rest of it is concerned, I'm sorry, I have no info.

That's an interesting aviation collectable. That would be a great piece to have restored.

Going forward could be a 50/50 crapshoot (forewarned is forearmed). Although it probably is worth more as a sentimental and nostalgic piece to you, it still would require the hand of a specialist to do a first class job. And that would cost. You'd probably be best off asking for recommendations on Airliners.net, then getting some quotes and crisp photos of previous work from those recommended.
