The pilot probably mistook the taxiway for the runway. That's the only logical explanation.

I heard/read several similar incidents that pilots use taxiway for landing - mainly happened at the airport with parallel runways.

But, for take off?....I am assuming there is enough time to do the take-off check list and double check the signs.

I wonder would the pilot be suspended or grounded for that? I suppose it wud have to be parallel taxiway to have the same compass heading.....its sum mistake to make do another tenerife accident waiting to happen
