Default Canadian bus models

Found this website that has paper bus templates of many transit buses from Canada:

Ryan's TTC Photos; Special Features; Paperbuses

These paper model templates look really nice but can anyone share some info about how you're supposed to construct these things (i.e. type of paper, glue or tape etc..) ?

Try card-stock. I just printed one out, and am attempting to put it together.

Good Luck!

OK can you buy card-stock from stores like Staples? Another thing I'd like to know is how you are supposed to put it together because some templates don't have the little flaps around the edges to glue on. Should you use tape, glue, or something else? Post pictures of your model please when you're done!

I think I will try this one (from my town) if I can find some card-stock.

Well, all you do is cut out the picture (with tabs for tape/glue, etc.). Fold along the lines, it says where to for some (Use a ruler to fold with, to keep it straight) and then just tape it together.

I tried to keep the tape on the inside, but it wouldn't hold, so I just stuck it on wherever it was needed.

Chicago Transit Authority

Yes it sucks, but it was the first. And it won't be the last!

There's lots of operators to choose from. Unfortunately for me though, no NJ Transit.

Great looking buses Compass, the a/c on the roof also looks nice. Did you use a special knife to cut and score the edges or just scissors and folding?

I think they are about 1:87 scale, you could probably shrink them down but they would become very hard to make I'm guessing.

For small parts like the AC and Canisters I just fold with my hands. for the main body, i use a ruler to keep the fold straight.

Scissors and folding is all you really need.

OK this is my first model, tape wouldn't hold inside like Compass said so I glued the side parts and taped/glued the front and rear, just some tape on the outside of the front and rear. Looks pretty nice, I'm going to make more soon:

You guys are so talented. Wow, look at the detail and craftsmanship that went in to cutting and folding that paper. Keeping those scissors on the cutting lines takes rock steady hands and an eagle eye. With all that folding, you guys are origami Gods. Please post more photos of this art for all of us to behold.

OK.. you're joking right? Of course you are, you're Tupi . They are OK nothing special, just fun to make, they aren't perfect but nice little paper models. I hope they'll look better with a little more practice.

Looks great paraminder!

They are very fun to make, and lots of buses are available. You could probably spend a whole day making these (Though it is not suggested).

Wow what a coincidence, I'm making that one right now! I think maybe the bellows should just be regular paper? I still building right now..

I thought about that, but eventually ended up using the ones on card sock. I think you should probably go with paper (Look what happened to mine!).

Here is my Mississauga Transit articulated bus, had to use tape in a lot of areas:

Nice! Did you cut out the wheels out for both sides, since one side of wheels are connected to the bottom?

Yeah I did cut out the wheels for both models using a push pin.

Next I'm going to make this double decker (also from where I live) :

OK here is the Go Transit double decker! My best one yet! Tabs are very important, this time I didn't use any tape, only glue, and it makes the model look much better.

Looks wonderful without the tape! Too bad I practically rely on it to make these.

By the way, did you put foam or something in the Mississauga?

I think you mean the yellow edges right? I don't have card-stock so instead I printed on regular printer paper and then glued that onto a manila card folder, it actually works really, really well. Some of the edges weren't to straight on the articulated bus so that's why you can see the inside which is that beige colour.

It's been a while and I have two more paper buses!

1. Renault Agora Line of the Paris Transit
Not the greatest quality, my only non North American bus

2. Novabus LFS of Montreal Transit
Definitely my best bus so far!

They look great without loads of scotch tape on them. I'll have to try tabs sometime.

Thanks, I just love the Novabus! It's a lot bigger than the New Flyers and others. The only downside with liquid glue is that you have to be careful not to rub it onto the paper surfaces (see what happened to my Paris bus's roof .

Haha, yeah. The roof looks like it got into a mud pit.

By the way, does Ryan's TTC Photos work for you still? I tried getting to it, but it says the page isn't available.

Yes a lot of glue residue..they can probably relate to Air France .

Ryan's TTC page is not working for me either. But this site seems to be the best by far (you have to have a Yahoo account to access the buses!)

Really? I just click copy and paste them into MS Word and print. Maybe because they are .PNG files? What broswer are you using? I use Firefox on Windows Vista. Are you using a Mac maybe?

Eh, yeah. I'm using a Mac and safari. I'll try firefox and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll just go over to my laptop.

Yeah must be because of Safari or OS X and the .PNG file format.
