That's quite some telescoping there!

Here in the Uk, a lot of the trains have crumple zones or bits on the ends of the coaches to stop them riding up over each other.

I suppose you can only do so much against the forces of physics though.

My sympathies to those injured and the families of those killed.

Did Airbus have anything to do with these subway cars?

Kinda ironic that it happened on the "red" line ... I've ridden the DC Metro many times during our visits; red, orange, yellow, green and blue.

Just awful ... how tragic that something as "routine" as riding on a subway can cost you your life ... I really feel for those unfortunate victims who sadly lost their lives needlessly.

There was an accident out here in L.A. last year, whereby a MetroLink commuter train crashed into a stopped locomotive and killed 25 passengers on their way home from work.

The reason?

The driver was "texting" just prior to the accident - I sure hope that the unfortunate driver who lost her life wasn't doing the same thing - because it's eerily similar - although I hope I'm wrong.

Engineer Was Texting Seconds Before Train Wreck

I always feel comfortable riding the Red Line, but still it can be a little iffy. The green line is by far the worst, especially when school gets out in D.C. But now its nine dead. Crazy.
