Orlando Magic v.s. Los Angeles Lakers
I am more of a NCAA basketball fan but who do you want to win? I am a Chicago Bulls fan but I hate the LA Lakers! that's why I am for the Orlando Magic. |

Orlando is going crazy right now! (The city) With Jameer Nelson back after 40 games, the Lakers are gonna have a hell of a time beating the Magic. I think the series is going to be like the Eastern Conference Finals. The Magic are great on the road and just about as good at home.
I still laugh at all the gay Kobe/Lebron Nike commercials where they are living together as puppets. Let's see those now. King Who???

Dang LA one the first game so now its LA leading 1-0 over Orlando.
Whatever this is just like the last series agains the Cavs. Lose one then win the rest! Justino, you live in Orlando, I would be guessing the city is going crazy just because the Magic haven't been to the finals in a while. Are you a big magic fan? dumb question but I've got to ask. |

Admittedly, unless you live in LA (or a very pissed off Cavs fan), you likely are not rooting for the Lakers, because let's admit it, they are what the NY Yankees were in Baseball, just boring to watch because you know they were the most likely to win the World Series. Quote:

The thing that really irked me Thursday night was that the commentators clearly showed favoritism to the Lakers and criticized the Magic 47min59sec out of the 48 minute regulation time. And it's pretty bad when the Editors of the Orlando Sentinel and Tiger Woods (a long time, supportive Magic fan) predict the Lakers to win the Finals.

I was SO hoping that the Magic would win in regulation ... that "alley-oop" ALMOST worked and it would have been great to go back home at a game apiece ... I KNEW that the Lakers would find a way to win in OT, so the game was over right there in MY book ... HOPEFULLY the Magic can win ALL three in Orlando and come back to LA and win Game 6 ... because I do NOT see how they can POSSIBLY win a Game 7 in L.A. ... that'll be next to impossible ...

Normally I would agree with that, but when it's your team going for the championship you tend to forget everything you hate about the sport and cheer them on! ![]() And watching the Finals and the Eastern/Western Conference Championships makes you really appreciate the skill of players like Dwight, Lebron, Kobe, and Carmelo...no matter how thuggish they can be. ![]() But anyways...last night was a great game! Dwight started playing the way he needed to play all along, Rafer and Rashard were making the shots, and Courtney Lee was putting the PRESSURE on Kobe! Just great game all around. Now lets win the next two at home and go to LA! And heres something to boost your spirits on the Magic...if we would have won in Game 2, the series would be 2-1 Magic leading!

I'm just bitter. My sport doesn't get nearly the coverage Gangsta-Ball does. I am in Anchorage, AK right now and there are two bar/grills within walking distance of my hotel. First one, Applebees, had EVERY t.v. turned to the NBA game, I asked and the wouldn't turn ONE TV to the hockey game. I left and walked over to TGI Fridays. Same thing. Folks, we are in Alaska here!!! And the oldest sports trophy in North America could have been won last night!! The NBA finals were only on game 3, so no trophy yet.
I finally convinced the TGI waitress to turn one TV to the hockey game....and by the third period, most of the bar was watching he hockey game..NOT the NBA game....we STILL couldn't gt them to turn on another TV. Ok, rant over, I have to fly to Homer and Kodiak now.

LA leads 3 games to 1 now, should be hardly possible that Orlando can win the finals now with only one game left in the O-rena...

Looks like the Lakers had just won the finals. Like I said, not surprising, the Lakers are a tank and make basketball finals boring. If you can predict who will win, it's not a sport event worth watching (unless it's the Globetrotters, though that's more of a circus.)

The REST of the game, they were just going through the motions. Otherwise, there was NO emotion. They were lethargic, and played with NO urgency. Lakers were the better team tonight, but during the REST of the series, the Lakers were the LUCKIER team, because before tonight's game, the series could WELL have been 3-1 Orlando, but because of BAD LUCK in game two, and BAD COACHING in game 4, they were in turn down 3-1. BORING ... BORING ... BORING. ![]() BORING!!! Last edited by MarinerOne; 06-15-2009 at 01:15 AM. |

They played the exact same way as they played in Game 4. Dominated the first half and then tired out/lost it/played "stupid" (as Turkoglu said) in the second half.
Jameer Nelson and Howard's free throws were the main causes for the Magic to go under in Game 4, and I think Van Gundy took notice of that for Game 5. But as you said, Mariner, they just weren't in it tonight.

Then to make matters even WORSE, he did it again in OT ... ... ... and THAT, my friend, was the STRAW that broke the Magic's back ... they just could NOT recover psychologically after that. ALSO, as good as Jameer Nelson was in the first half of the regular season, he messed up the team's chemistry in coming back during this finals series. Orlando had better 'energy' the previous series with the Cavs than they did here with the Lakers ... WITHOUT Nelson. Little stuff like that will throw a team out of sync, and that's another thing that led to their fall. Sorry Justino ... it's tough losing ugly like this at home ... but you gotta admit that Kobe was "possessed", and nothing was going to stop him. He's a great player, and now that they have a legitimate center in Gasol along with Ariza, and veteran leadership in Fisher, they have a team that could repeat again if LeBron or you guys don't step it up next year.

Exactly
If I were Van Gundy, I would be spending the off season working on three things: - Free Throws (Dwight!!!!!!!!!) - Transitions - Three Pointers I would also work with Dwight on keeping the ball above his chest when they pass to him at the post. Gasol mastered that and was able to get results. Dwight has that instinct to dribble the ball atleast once and bring it below his waist and they slap it right out of his big, long arms. THEY'RE BIG, LONG ARMS FOR A REASON, DWIGHT! And also, I would make it policy that if you miss a significant part of the season, and the team makes it through the playoffs WITHOUT you playing, you're on the bench cheering everyone on until next season. If they would've gotten those things down, we would be talking about the Magic winning their first ever NBA Championship right now and not the 15th Championship for the Lakers.
