Just got done with it... I scored a 100%!!! Yeah!!! It feels good to have that out of the way before my actual flight training begins in January. I go to a college with an aeronautical science program (I'm majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Aeronautical Science), and you have to pass their semester long private pilot ground school course and take the FAA written before you actually fly, instead of doing it all at once.
Anywho, just felt like sharing. I know it's not that big of an accomplishment, but I'm 20 years old, and just completed the first step toward realizing my dream--to become a pilot.

I wish you the best of luck as well. Good for you for getting an early start. I wish I'd been able to start flight training in high school, but I played sports year-round, so I didn't have a lot of extra time. I did take a few lessons summer before my senior year and was considering going for it, but decided against it. I sure was jealous though when a good friend of mine finished up his private our senior year! No big deal though, I'm on my way now.

Congrats on passing your written. PP and your INT are the two tough ones. Couple words of advice. Take all your writtens before you start actually flight training for example when you take your instrument training get writtens out of the way and take your CFII and IGI written at the same time. Make sure you finish school(college) and do A LOT of research before committing to a flight school. If you guys have anymore question PM me. NIce job it gets better.

Thanks! Good luck to you. Understand all the questions and topics covered in Gleim, take a few practice tests on Sporty's, and you should be golden. Piece of cake man.

mike777 did you study every question or did you just memorize the answers? Most of my pilot buddies including myself just memorized. What worked for you?

Having been in a very thorough private pilot ground school course at my school for the last three and a half months, I can honestly say that I understood all the questions in Gleim and didn't just memorize the answers. But I did go through the entire Gleim book twice during the week leading up to the test, so I had seen every possible question and made sure I understood the answers. That said, some of it is just rote memorization, like the CFR questions.

Congratulations, Mike! Great job! That's a sweet start on your way to becoming a pilot. Hey, just out of curiosity, what school are you going to? Is it Riddle? I'm a Riddle grad from the Aeronautical Science program, so if that's where you're going, feel free to ask me any questions you might have about classes, flight training, etc.

I think memorizing the Gleim is probably one of the most popular ways of prepping for the written tests. All of my friends and I did it that way. The toughest one was probably the most recent one I took....the Part 121 ATP. Take a look at the size of that Gleim and tell me that isn't intimidating!

Not lately. With the economy going like it is, I have to 'keep gainfully employed!" Actually, I have been working on a Hawaiian B-717 that should get finished sometime soon. I'll post it when its done.
By the way, any pilot will tell you, it's a heck of a ride getting there, and these flights will be the most fun you'll ever have flying. You are building memories!

Thanks for asking about my drawings as well! I've actually gone back to the drawing board (excuse the pun, hehe) with my Continental 737; I've been "upgrading" it with some darker shading and it's looking really really good! I'm almost finished with it and I'll post some scans when I'm done. I'll have some updated scans of my in-progress CO 727 in a week or so as well. |
