Default Sarah Palin

First of all out of all the running mates Senator McCain could have chosen he chose an Alaskan Senator. Does this seem like a desperation attempt to any of you? On the other hand, Palin is freaking HOT!!! I mean come on! For an older woman in her 40's she is one sexy lady. What do you all think?

She's actually Governor of Alaska, not a Senator.

Should we call her a "cougar?"

I think McCain wanted to choose someone that would bring some life to his campaign, because he's perceived as being old and stodgy. Plus, the ultra conservatives of the Republican Party were less than thrilled about his nomination, and Sarah Palin's views are more in line with that faction of the party.

The fact that's she's an attractive woman was a smart move of McCain's because it garnered a lot of media attention. She's sort of like the sexy librarian type, conservative and quiet, wearing glasses and her hair up. But when she takes her glasses off and lets her hair down, VA-VA-VOOM!

It will be interesting next week when she debates Joe Biden, who's been in the Senate longer than most of us have been alive. There really should be term limits for Senators and the House. Biden will go in for the kill, and the liberal media will have a field day with Sarah. But hopefully, she'll be prepared enough and campaign advisors will groom her for what is going to a steep hill to climb. But she'll do it in heels! No pant suits!

I think McCain will use her and present her the same way JFK did with Jackie. Use her for his political advantage.

Since she isn´t running for Teenage Miss America (she´d have to win against South Carolina, though), I don´t care how she looks either with her hair up, down, or shaved off.

Judging from what she says in interviews, and the way she says it, the Paris Hilton/Britney Spears scale of stupidity has hit an all-time low with Sarah Palin.

Then again, it´s what a large part of this world has come to expect from America after eight years of Bush 43.

The problem really lies in how the press presents her. The news media is in love with Obaba, and tries to show McCain and Palin in the worst possible light. Every misstatement, gulp and pause, as well as just a goofy moment (we all have that at some time) is captured and enhanced by the newsies. I'm not a big fan of McCain either, but I'd take him over Obaba the Empty Shirt any day.

Maybe, although I think that both Obama and McCain are about the lowest level politics can droop to. Still, keep in mind that, given McCains age and history, chances are that you are stuck with a president Palin whose foreign experience derives from library books and a view across the Bering Strait. To me, if I were to vote, that simply wouldn´t be enough.

To me, Ms Palin represents the worst of republican traditions as last displayed by the current US president: dumb, ignorant and arrogant.

Do you really want that kind of administration to guide your country through the banking crisis?

They might be smart enough to realize they aren't smart enough, and surround themselves with very smart advisers and experts like Reagan did (he was none too smart, but he realized it). I'm not partial to any party, but if we go Democrat with Obama, things will not be any better, and may get worse. I dunno, we're on a slippery slope to hell, I think.

True, but 2 of those were in power LONG before I could vote. Every country has their good and bad 'uns.

Not sure about Mr Brown at the moment, but hey, my choice is simplified as we have Shrek leading the Scottish Parliament currently

I only vote for things that actually matter anyway.

If he is to be REALLY convincing, he needs to dye his hair white and change his name by depoll to 'Guinness 'O Bama'.

..... Or maybe not.

The words speak for themselves........................

Couric: You've said, quote, "John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business." Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?

Palin: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie - that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.

Couric: But he's been in Congress for 26 years. He's been chairman of the powerful Commerce Committee. And he has almost always sided with less regulation, not more.

Palin: He's also known as the maverick though, taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about - the need to reform government.

Couric: But can you give me any other concrete examples? Because I know you've said Barack Obama is a lot of talk and no action. Can you give me any other examples in his 26 years of John McCain truly taking a stand on this?

Palin: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.

Couric: I'm just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.

Palin: I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to you.

To the best of my knowledge this was not "captured and enhanced by the newsies."

Yeah, I say a Couric/Palin interview on this evenings news; same tactics. I was kinda hopin' that Palin would have asked Couric to check the news archives over the past 26 years. Could have worked well to change the tables on Couric.

I love how reporters tend to "trap" people in order to make them look stupid or ignorant. No such tactic was used on Obaba during ANY interviews, the reporters were very gentle. Gov. Palin was caught short by this question, to defend McCain's record and not hers. Nobody can know everything, I'm sure she was prepared to answer questions pertaining to HER candidacy. I think Gov Palin should not have waffled, it makes you look bad...rather she should have taken the tact of "I'll have to look up Sen. McCain's record as I don't have all the facts of his carreer memorized". I hate these stupid partisan interviews, and Couric is a beahtch anyway.

Couric repeatedly asked Gov. Palin which media sources she uses to receive Washington news? Palin wouldn't give her a magazine, newspaper or broadcast name. Good for Palin. It's an unnecessary question and why would Palin want to publicize her media sources?

There comes a point when I realize that the interview should have already ended.

Well, before you get too quick and hasty to knock Palin and McCain about guidance through the financial crisis now - do you know where the leadership of the failed Wall Street debacle came from? Also, do you know where they are now? Check the facts below. Yeah, I want these guys to help our financial crisis, the one we are in, that they created themselves. Go figure!

Additionally, Sarah Palin has been a Chief Executive of a town (Mayor) and Chief Executive of a State and done quite a good job at both. Far more experience than O'Bama's 143 days in the US Senate. OK, we can SNL the Palin "I can see Russia from my porch" all day but did you hear Joe Biden screw up the interview about
Roosevelt? - YouTube - Joe Biden Screws Up During Interview That FDR led the nation when the stock market crashed (some 10 years before Roosevelt was in office) and informed the country on television (which wasn't invented yet). Yep, that makes me feel good when Sarah Palin says I know a lot about Russia, I can see it from my front porch. Because, what she is saying is that she does understand and that she is very close to the subject (closer than any other state except Florida to a communist country) and that she is privy to all the federal and military issues involving that proximity, including secret missions and activity that goes on in Alaskan waters near Russia.

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives
who have brought down Wall Street.
Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregularities in Fannie Mae's accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, " Raines, who long defended the company's accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that "mistakes were made" and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company's books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years." Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion.
Raines left with a "golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government filed suit against Raines when the depth of the accounting scandal became clear. DoomWatch - Former Fannie Mae Executives Charged | Housing Doom . The Government noted, "The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. The Notice explains how they submitted six years of misleading and inaccurate accounting statements and inaccurate capital reports that enabled them to grow Fannie Mae in an unsafe and unsound manner." These charges were made in 2006. The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.
Net windfall . . . $190 million!
Tim Howard - Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard "was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a "stable pattern of earnings" at Fannie. In everyday English - he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, "Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,"
On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses. Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.
Howard's Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million!
Jim Johnson - A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO. A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million." Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.
Johnson's Golden Parachute was estimated at $28 Million.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor
TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama
JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee

Well, perhaps you could move to Italy, where they simply say goodbye with ciao?

Or Germany, where they either say "Guten Tag", "Tag", or "Gruss Gott" (in Bavaria). Most places I've been to say "Good Day", including England. But "Have a nice day" just sounds about as insipid and insincere as you can get.

TIM HOWARD? Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama
JIM JOHNSON? Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee
I think I want to move to Canada....

I agree. My favorite part is when you call someone to complain, about the service, or you not receiving such and such at such and such time. Either the person will say thanks, have a nice day, or they will b@#$% back at you and then say "thank you have a nice day".

Absolutely! I was a Rapid Deployment Force F-4 Phantom Pilot and deployed to England every year. On one deployment, it was in the middle of the Falklands crisis. We were instructed not to mention or give our opinion on the matter in public while in England. But when asked what I thought of the conflict, I always spoke my mind and said at a few pubs..."I hope you kick their asses!" The fact is, the entire family under the Union Jack is very matter-of-factly and I appreciated that very much. I am Scottish by heritage and have visited my homeland and return every year on my annual trek around Europe. Be careful though, you guys are serving ice in sodas now and that is only to please the Yanks there! Things could be changing. What flavor is your hat? No way it will catch on over there, you are right! I do have to admit that when I am down in the South here in America, it is a very sincere gesture to say "Have a nice day" but it has to have a real southern drawl from a local to be sincere and authentic and I know it when I hear it. Not like the illegal immigrant at the 7-11 saying it makes me feel better. Cheers!

Like the controller in Texas that clears the El Al 747 onto runway 13 for take-off and the 767ER from Quatar Airlines for take-off on runway 31 and as they are rolling down the runway past Vr, they both realize what is happening and query the controller who responds..."have a nice day!"

Phil Gramm, a former US senator from Texas is one of McCains major economics advisors. If any one single person could be blamed for the subprime market disasters which have afflicted ordinary people in America it's Phil Graham because he was the most influential of the US senators who removed regulations which might have curbed the ability of large financial interests to start the subprime crisis going. He was also the Texas senator who made it possible to remove restrictions which prevented people from doing this whole derivatives market which many people see as one of the core sources for financial instability in the capital markets today. If there is one person whom you could actually label as responsible for the present disaster it is Phil Graham. Now, who's serving the "Kool Aid"?

Funny how we can go back and forth on who the worst candidate is...kind of like what they're doing with each other. Bottom line: THEY BOTH SUCK, I just think McCain sucks a little less.

Problem is that they each lose all their personal identity when rung through the political agenda of each major political party. I think the two party system stinks with corruption, and while on the surface they appear to be at opposite ends of the spectrum, underneath the sheets they are scratching each others back. I think Obama sucks a little less, but just to get back on thread, PALIN? please, if you want to do her, DO HER !!, just don't vote for her.

Well, my Kool-Aid is Gatorade and if I remember my 4th grade government class, it takes more than 1 Senator to pass legislation in Congress and that is only on one side of the floor. And, even though I do know about his past, he didn't get a $240 Million dollar parachute either and bail. So one Senator cannot be the single focus of the government's action on legislative affairs. However, one CEO can direct the company to its financial doom, run with his parachute,
and leave us all with the empty bag is a different story. Mr. Gramn was part of the vote that was overwhelmingly Democratic and non-partisan along the "Economic Growth" lines of the stock market climb. We all just happily skipped along when the markets were climbing and I recall that Gramm was actually considered a "Genius" for the incredible financial climb of the market based on the "de-regulation" ride we were all a part of. The airline guys here (me being one of them at one point) can clue you in how that great idea has gotten us all where the airline business is today. It was "fashionable" to create competition by de-regulating. Phil Gramm is no prince but as the Fed Chair, do you think he was the only Senator or Congressman that supported the idea? The key is Politician - look up the definition of Politician. They can be the greatest person in the world until they get in the gaggle and see what they can get for peddling influence! How quickly a great idea that works for a while can be the root cause of the failure when the walls come tumbling down. But let us at least agree to disagree. When the football team can't get into the end zone who gets the blame? When they do get into the end zone, who does the TV color analyst give credit to? I spent 27 years working for the federal government. I was on the White House staff for George Herbert Walker Bush and Bill Clinton from 1989 - 1994. I served Secretary Ridge at DHS HQ from 2003-2004. What makes for a great President and administration is who the President chooses to serve in the administration. Do you think we can get guys who are making millions to come to work for SES IV salary for 4 or perhaps 8 years? It is here where I actually believe that we need someone very distant from this mess to be a little more clear headed in making legislation and leading our country. The guys and galls that have been in Congress (both sides) for more than 8 years have it figured out and they are not interested in what is good for the country any more, they are interested in what lines their pockets. I have watched it and worked it in the city of Washington for more than 12 years. If you have never seen it, in person and experienced the frustration of our government at work, you have no idea what it is like. But, and I really mean BUT, it is better than any place I have ever been in the world. We are lucky we can ***** about stuff like this, otherwise we'd be taken out back and shot for what we are saying! I am not ready to secede from the Union yet!
