Default Our Wonderful Postal Service in Action

I recently sold a model to well know DAC member in Canada and the transaction was smooth as usual until the post office got involved. Box dropped off at Post Office in Orlando Florida last week...

Orlando to Toronto Canada.....routing as of now..

1) Orlando - Miami to the sorting center..

2) 2days later Miami- Zurich Switzerland

3) 2 days later Zurich - Warsaw Poland...

4) Still in Warsaw Poland now for 2 days

Though I feel awful for the recipient as they want their model and its paid for, I am getting quite a laugh out of this. Where will it go next????

A well traveled parcel touring the world...

USPS isnt unique in that. Several years ago I sent a package via Canuckistanin Post from Ottawa to Kingston a distance of about 120 miles. When it arrived back at the house a month later it was marked "No such address in Kingston Jamaica",

Hi there.

Does the USPS have a world map?

Something somehow similar but on a lower scale happened to me a while ago. As some of you know, I live in Mulhouse, Alsace, which is about 12 km to the German and 25 km to the Swiss border. I had to send a package to Freiburg-im-Breisgau, which is about 55 km from here, on the German side of the Rhine.

As I usually drive to Freiburg at least once every week, I could have bring it there myself but I needed a french receipt as a "proof". So I sent it from the (French) Post Office which is just on the other side of the street. It went:

Mulhouse (FR) > Paris CDG (FR)
Paris CDG > Warszawa (PL)
Warszawa > Erfurt (DE)
Erfurt > Lahr/Schwarzwald (DE)
Lahr > Freiburg-im-Breisgau

The whole voyage lasted for some rough 14 days...

G'day,

I suggest that ALL post services are somewhat connected throughout the world. I had sent to me via overnight post a parcel box of models (5kg worth - about 11 pounds) and it needed to travel about 35 miles (60kms) across Melbourne, Australia. Well, Australia Post decided to send my parcel first to Alice Springs (2,257kms from where it was posted) then further on to Wyndham in Western Australia (4,500km) before finally making it's way back to me via Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and then finally Melbourne some 11 days later. Overnight delivery hey...?

That's an interesting theory, Lou, and I think that it is not entirely wrong. Perhaps North Korea isn't part of it and I also have some doubts about the former/future Soviet Republic of Gagauz in Moldavia

Question Re: Our Wonderful Postal Service in Action

I am guessing the customer is Leslie? Routing through Europe to get to YYZ deserves at least a head scratch.

Still waiting for a package from Shenzhen. I think they strapped it to the back of a sea turtle.

I didn't know the Swiss and Poles have the same scanning system as the USPS. I never get a detailed tracking like that from international shipments. I usually just get that the item was accepted at the foreign country's postal office and that's the end of tracking then the item shows up at my doorstep. Canada to US or vice versa is the only tracking system that is detailed.

As far as Canada Post is concerned,I get letters from the UK faster than I do from Calgary. That wasn't a fluke either,it's happened to me 3 times. One was a parcel that had customs in the mix. You don't need to be handy at geography to know that makes no sense? Canada Post is extremely expensive. It's the reason I no longer sell on eBay. When I give a quote to a potential buyer for say an Inflight B747 to Melbourne, the sale hits the wall right then. USPS is a great deal less expensive than Canada Post. When we cross into Washington State,it is common now for the customs agent to ask if we have anything in the car to mail?

I thought my USPS story was bad. I bought on eBay from a guy in Anaheim CA, going to Irvine CA, about 20miles apart. A week later I got the status report saying it was in the sorting center in NEW JERSEY! I went in to a local office as ask what was going on and they could say was "Uh, sorry". I emailed USPS and least they gave a better apology and said they would rush to back to me, and I did get it about 3 days later.

You should probably email USPS and them they've sent the package to the wrong continent. . .

I went to the USPS website, copy and pasted the tracking number off their site, then I went into the "open claim" section to file it as missing, however when I pasted the tracking number again off their website they said it was an invalid number!

I was able to file a claim via phone and they said it would take 30-45 days to investigate..

Canada Post is expensive (as I have said many times) but they have always been reliable. This USPS deal going on with Leslie's parcel is a bit past a joke. So,do we have any idea were the box actually is sitting? In the world of scanning and bar codes, this should not be happening. I'd be having kittens by now. Appropriate smiley for the postal system.

Hopefully, it will show up before my next Birthday and in regards to having kittens...

Did you sell to anyone in poland at same time as toronto? if it cleared customs it means its going to be attempted to a address in poland, possibly until the poles find out its ____ canada and take another 2 weeks to send it back, likely damaged.

Reunion is 200 kms away from Mauritius.
There are 5 return flights a day, a one way trip last 45 mns max.
If i send post to Mauritius, it will fly from RUN to Paris, and fly again from Paris to Mauritius, total distance of 19700 kms.
